I noticed that as well. Anyone know whether or not you can download the audiobook to the computer to save a copy like you can with Audible? I know you can't listen to them on the computer ... it has to be on the Kobo app, but can we save them offsite?
It says the audiobooks are supplied by Overdrive, which is what many library systems use. Unless I'm misunderstanding this, I would personally just get them from a library system rather than pay Kobo. Even if your library doesn't have a great supply of Overdrive books (like my local library), a $50/year non-resident fee for Brooklyn Public Library would be cheaper in the long run than this. Owning them is nice, but if you move Overdrive MP3 files to your device (and of course delete when you're done), you don't have to worry about them expiring. Kelly, you can save Overdrive MP3 files you get with the annual Audiobook SYNC young adult offers to your computer, so I would guess you can do it with this option. And like I said above, with Overdrive MP3 files I know you can move them to your smartphone and listen to them through a non-Overdrive app (like Smart Audiobook on my Android phone). I also used to do this with my old nano.
If I'm wrong about any of this, feel free to set me straight.
Does anyone know if there is some way to get my MacBook Air computer to recognize my Android smartphone? I've been unable to transfer Overdrive books to my phone.

Sounds nice enough, Manda. Now we have to wait and hear from you if they will have nice deals, like the bogo sales that Audible has.My 24/annual subscription makes my books £4.58 and with some bogo deals and daily deals I usually end up paying far less than that per book at the end of the year.
So at the moment it's not good enough for me, but still: interesting if they are going to expand the options...

Makes sense as Rakuten owns both OverDrive and Kobo
Audible is now available as a Canadian site. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they have the same daily deal sales on
Trough a site in Belgium/The Netherlands I got a 'Kobo Plus Listen' subscription at €10 / month if I recall correctly.Upside: I can add as many books to my account as I want, and listen to them at my own pace (sorta like Netflix) sometimes they remove books and add other etc.
Downside: Can only be used by their app and you pay for a service, you will never own your favorite books...
You have to use their app, so you can listen on your phone or tablet.
There is a work arround since you can install a program called 'Bluestacks' on your computer, this emulates an Android tablet, which enables you to install their app and listen to books on the computer ;-)
(And there are other alternatives I'm sure)
