Here's one classic that I found curiously omitted from our list and that I had to rectify. Ghost Story is the quintessential ghost story. It is a multi-layered slow burn that builds atmosphere and dread page after page. It is not fast-food horror meant to be devoured in one sitting, making very little impact. No, Ghost Story is meant to be slowly enjoyed, experienced, bite after bite, permeating into your soul, locking itself away and never leaving.

As you can tell, I think very highly of Ghost Story. Has anyone else had the pleasure of reading Straub's classic? Thoughts?

D20 | 173 comments I didn't get on with that one. The start was too slow and lost me.

Funny enough, there's another book called Ghost Story that I really liked.
Ghost Story by Jeff Brackett

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 14 comments This is one of my favorite books ever written and it scared the hell out of me. I read it during a solo "cabin in the woods" retreat last summer in a small Pennsylvania town and I scared myself, lmao. Gregory Bates will forever haunt me!

Latasha (latasha513) I remember not liking it very much but I don't remember why or very much about it. :(

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I read it when I was a younger reader - teenage years. I remember being bored for awhile then really finding it good. I can't remember hardly anything though, so I want to re-read this one soon. Marked it for this month (or October)
