Mitford? Nancy Mitford wasnt born until 1904, and this was published in 1907. What Mitford is she talking about??

I believe the reference is to Mary Russell Mitford (1787-1855). Mitford's stories of rural English life were published as "Our Village". I highly recommend "Our Village" if you like Austen and early Eliot.
