After watching the TV show it is fun to see things being set up chapters or books before they come to pass. It just shows you how much pre-writing work and world building takes place.Paul.
I was kind of wondering why Ben Stark chose the black. I am thinking maybe because growing up he didn't really have anything to inherit because of Bran and Eddard so maybe he just chose to create a new path for himself?
Also another thought, I haven't read the books (currently on book 1) and I am caught up to date with the series, I am wondering will we ever meet Jon Snow's mother? This is a really bizarre thought of mine and it probably is wrong because it seems like most of you ladies and gentleman have read the books and so far I kind of get the impression that she is just another tavern wench, but what if Jon Snow's mother was like a Lady or someone of power in a previous house or something. That would be really cool to see her come back and take Jon in or something. Just a thought that is completely out there so don't be too harsh! Lol.
Kevin. I am at fireworks right now for the fourth but later on I will post what most people think about john's mother.
Jon's mother (just a theory)this all happened before "A Game of Thrones".
Lyanna Stark was the younger sister of Lord Eddard Stark and was betrothed to Ned's childhood friend, Robert Baratheon.
Rhaegar Targaryen was the eldest son of King Aerys II Targaryen and married to Elia of Dorne. they had several children. Elia and the kids were killed during the Sacking of Kings Landing.
At a Tourney Rhaegar noticed Lyanna and despite being married with children decides that he can't live without her. She will be his and after all, he is the next in line to the Iron Throne. Who would/could tell him no. Depending on who was telling the story: The Starks saw it as an abduction and the Targaryens saw it as true love. Either way Rhaegar left his wife and took off with Lyanna. This was the events that kicked off Roberts Rebellion and was the downfall of house Targaryen.
I am not sure how long it was before the rebellion ended but it was about a year or so. A lot of people think that Jon Snow might be Rhaegar and Lyanna's son. We see that Ned is a very honorable man. I don't see him doing something like cheating on his wife. I can see where he found his sisters child and knew that if people knew who his father was they would kill the baby. the theory is Ned grabbed the baby and told everyone that Jon was his to keep jon safe.

Paul.
And Kevin I do think Jon's mother is someone of power of some sort. Maybe we haven't been introduced to her yet, but it's interesting.
I've had the same thought about his mother, and that Eddard took him on as a son...but then wouldn't this mean that (if the theory Paul stated is true at some point) Cat has definitely been mistreating Jon? I know she won't be around long enough to find out (even if GRRM ever decides to let us know lol), but that would be a sucky realization that all this time you're mistreating a child just to find out that it wasn't from an affair on your husband's account. I do how at some point we get to to know who Jon's mum is.
Britannia, often people make decisions without knowing the entire story. I hope she would feel bad about what she has done.Paul.
Paul wrote: "Britannia, often people make decisions without knowing the entire story. I hope she would feel bad about what she has done.Paul."
Hey, Paul! You're right, and it's naturally human but I just wish that some people wouldn't treat a child a certain way when the child had nothing to do with it. But if she had found out differently, I'd hope the same thing.
