Tasks per playersD.G.: (5)
Jane (3):
Book Concierge (2):
Marty (1):
Bunnita (1):
Melissa~(5):
After you introduce yourself, please answer the following questions:Is there any genre/task you do NOT want to read? (That way we can have somebody else in the team read that genre. )
Select two tasks from the body/setting you'd like to read (first come, first serve.)
Hi! I'm D.G., your captain. I'm from NYC, married, no children. Reading is my main hobby. :)My favorite genres are romance, UF, fantasy and mysteries. I can read any task on the board except for non-fiction (I have to be on a mood for those and I doubt I'll get in one this month. :)
Oh and I've already put together a spreadsheet but it's has a lot of stuff so I'll maintain it myself. :)
There are 6 of us so we won't have a problem finishing the challenge in 4 weeks. Let's start with the setting and body tasks though - if you happen to read a book for something else that fits the energy is fine, but let's make sure that at least each of us reads 2 tasks from setting/body.So I guess when you introduce yourself, almost mention which two tasks from body/setting you'd like to read. I'll add that to my first post. :)
Being a captain has some benefits so I'll pick one of my tasks first. :)Body - Romance
I'll wait for the second one to see if there's something you guys don't read that I do (vampires, science fiction, or any of the body parts.) I have books for all of us those.
*waves* Hi teamies!! This should be fun!I live about an hour outside of Chicago. Married, two high schoolers, two dogs, and work full time in the healthcare field. Reading is my
I enjoy romance, paranormal, urban fantasy, MM, thrillers, mysteries.
I would like to NOT do the historical and the non fiction.

I sent friend request to all of you who weren't already my friend - except for Marty who has a very specific question so it didn't let me send a request.
I have a head book picked for another challenge in Oct - so I'll choose that for one of my body part books.
My work starts in half hour and I have to go to the drugstore to buy something but I'll check through out the day.Oh btw...we should pick a team name! I thought we should use one from a Frankenstein movie....what do you think of
The Brides of Frankenstein?
Feel free to make any other suggestions!
Hi, I'm Tessa (Book Concierge). I live in Wisconsin, retired this summer from my career in Healthcare Administration. Married, no children, no pets. Born and raised in Texas but came to WI for college and fell in love with winter (I hate hot weather), so I stayed here. I read just about anything with words, but my favorite genre is literary fiction. Not a big fan of fantasy, dystopia, romance or graphic novels. I'll read
SETTING / Task: Set in Europe (I have TWO different ones for my two F2F book clubs in October!)
BODY / BRAINS: non-fiction (I have one on board for my F2F book club in November)
Also, if anyone is looking for a good book for the historical fiction .... The Temeraire series is set during the Napoleonic wars (1799-1815), so the time line fits, and they feature a dragon, so as classified as fantasy as well. The first book in the series is:
~Melissa~ wrote: "*waves* Hi teamies!! This should be fun!I live about an hour outside of Chicago. Married, two high schoolers, two dogs, and work full time in the healthcare field. Reading is my obsession hobby
..."
Okay, Melissa ... our reading tastes are opposite ... but healthcare careers and proximity to Chicago makes us practically neighbors!
Team name suggestion:One of the key phrases from the movies was: "It's alive!" (Or was it: "It lives!"
Anyway .... team name: Book's Alive!
Book Concierge wrote: "~Melissa~ wrote: "*waves* Hi teamies!! This should be fun!I live about an hour outside of Chicago. Married, two high schoolers, two dogs, and work full time in the healthcare field. Reading is my ..."
Well - hubby and I are looking at warm places to retire :) I hate the winters here but I do like a white Christmas. I guess it depends where our kids end up if we keep a place here and a warmer climate place. One can hope :D
Just a reminder (as I'm used to starting on first of the month) - we can't start reading for this until MONDAY OCT 2 Caps were so I'd remember :D
I can do the science fiction and/or vampire book if no one else wants but I don't want to claim to many before the others check in :)
Good to meet you, Tessa! I've read the first two books in the Temeraire series and they were great! I just need to continue the series now...
~Melissa~ wrote: "I can do the science fiction and/or vampire book if no one else wants but I don't want to claim to many before the others check in :)"Yup, let's just claim only two tasks for now. If the rest of the team doesn't read those, then we can go claim them.
I can read any of the remaining tasks as well. :)
~Melissa~ wrote: "Just a reminder (as I'm used to starting on first of the month) - we can't start reading for this until MONDAY OCT 2 Caps were so I'd remember :D"
Good reminder! You can pick your books but not start reading until Oct. 2nd!!
I need to sign off for the rest of the (working day) - I cannot log in to GR from my work computer. I'll check back in to make updates in about 7 hours.Keep thinking about team names! We have:
Brides of Frankestein
Book's Alive!
A bit late to the party but I will do Vampire and Historical.Paranormal and Fantasy are my favourite genres.
Non fiction and historical are the two genres I don't read very often.
I do not usually like to do historical books but I'll do it this time as it will force me to read Empire of Ivory, which is the fourth book in the Temeraire series. I've had it on loan from the library several times and have it in the house right now, it has to be back by the 4th of October and I can't renew.
D.G. wrote: "Good to meet you, Tessa! I've read the first two books in the Temeraire series and they were great! I just need to continue the series now..."I like the fantasy part of this series but as it progresses it seems to be more about war and politics which is two genres I don't usually read or like.
I have nothing for torso or arms/legs. If I had to I could probably find something for it.I can cover Science Fiction as I have a few on my October reading list.
I might be able to cover College / university with the book Carrie by Stephen King. As far as I can see in the blurb it happens at senior prom. Is that not college?
It also depends if I get it in time from the library.
Hi Jane - Just pick two tasks for now and don't worry about tasks you don't read. There 2 players who haven't checked in yet and we seem to have a nice mix of interests so something you don't like will be good for others.I'll put you for Vampire & 1797-1851 (if you'd like to change the latter, please let me know).
Hi, I'm late to the party. Name's Marty (short for Margaret), a native Nebraskan who's happily transplanted to Baton Rouge. I'm married, with three spoiled cats. I'm an art and design librarian by trade. Reading, knitting and geocaching are in a three way struggle for supremacy over my time and lately, reading's been losing out, so it's time to rectify that. :)
I can do the Set in a College or University and the science fiction tasks, if that's okay.
Name suggestion: all I can think of is Monster Mashers right now.
Spreadsheet - I see that's already set up, great!
Marty wrote: "Oops, I see that my two choices have already been spoken for. What's left? Legs and feet?"Welcome Marty!
Jane had already made two other picks before so you can take Set in College and Science Fiction.
I'll add it in message 2.
There are only two tasks left: Legs/Feet & Torso. If Bunnita doesn't read one of those, then I can take one over (I also have a book with feet/legs.)
Note for those reading Science Fiction & Vampires:Per the mod: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Science Fiction: Must be a top genre in the Book Page
Vampire: Must be more than a mention (I take that to be it must be an important character that shows up more than once or twice.)
We have 3 group name suggestions:Brides of Frankenstein
Book's Alive!
Monster Mashers
Do you have any other suggestions? If not, please vote for your favorite!!
I confess I like them all...
Jane wrote: "II might be able to cover College / university with the book Carrie by Stephen King. As far as I can see in the blurb it happens at senior prom. Is that not college? ..."No ... Carrie is set in a high school.
Just a reminder to everyone ...You must wait until Oct 2 to begin reading books for this challenge!
So many challenges begin on the first of the month, so starting on the 2nd is definitely a change.
Book Concierge wrote: "Jane wrote: "II might be able to cover College / university with the book Carrie by Stephen King. As far as I can see in the blurb it happens at senior prom. Is that not college? ..."No ... Carri..."
Thanks. :-)
I never can figure out the different schools in USA
Ooh we have a new name! I like that one too!! Those are 4 good options so let's keep it to those because I want to have a name before we officially start reading on Monday. Please vote for one of these:
Brides of Frankenstein
Book's Alive!
Monster Mashers
Monster Makers
If I don't hear from everybody by Sunday (Oct 1st), I'll make decision using whatever votes we got (you snooze, you lose!)
Reminders!Reading starts Monday, Oct. 2nd
Books must be a 150 page minimum
If you are reading a body part, these are the rules:
1 book where only a head is on the cover
1 book where only a torso is on the cover (a little bit of arms is okay)
1 book where only arms or hands are on the cover
1 book where only legs or feet are on the cover
If you are NOT sure whether your book fits, please ask in the Q&A thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Bunnita if it can help you, you can also chose between "Set between 1797-1851" and "vampire"
as I have found a books for both "Legs/Feet" and "torso"
Jane - that looks great for feet/legs. I’ll put you up for that and free up the historical.Bunnita hasn’t checked in yet - I’ll PM her again today.
D.G. wrote: "Jane - that looks great for feet/legs. I’ll put you up for that and free up the historical.Bunnita hasn’t checked in yet - I’ll PM her again today."
That's fine, I will read my historical anyway as I both need it for other challenges and need to give it back to the library by Wednesday.
Jane! Don't hog all the tasks as I haven't selected a second one yet. :) I was waiting for Bunnita to pick hers but as she hasn't check in, I'll go ahead and select 'Torso' as my second task.
