Better Than Starbucks discussion

Wow! Anyone else been following the comments over at this month's poetry contest for the Goodreads Newsletter?

You know, usually one or two whiners who complain that their poem was better than any of the finalists and that the judges are stilted and only like one kind of poem.

This month, my quite nearly perfect poem was overlooked for 10 poems that were clearly inferior... just kidding, yes, I like my own work, but I realize I am neither a judge, nor English major who has studied the craft of poetry from whatever technical point of view one should have.

And I pretty much don't like silly poems, nor do I like rhyming poems, or very long poems, but that's why I get to vote, like anyone else who wants to join Poetry! the group. I have won once, and maybe I will win again. Either way, I enjoy reading the finalists. the 400 or so raw entries, not so much. the judges are very brave....

butt he point is, of the six finalists, I really liked the one that did win. I didn't care much for some of the others, because they weren't my type of poems. but to here a couple dozen posters, this was the worst crop of poems ever to make the finals. not only is that very rude, it is an insult to the very judges they hope will pick their poems next month.

Anyway, I just wanted to vent about how disgusted I was with the petty shallow comments on the voting thread.

I remember this too well.....but I popped into this thread to say I love this month's finalists, especially "The Currency of Bears." A really wonderful poem.
