There are 2 basic books for me... (not counting reference books)There are books that are just pure entertainment. Enjoy it "in the moment". These books are very entertaining... but are usually forgettable. For me, most Stephen King books end up in this category. A few exceptions would be Rage (out of print), The Shining, and The Stand. They are the books you pick up and ask "did I read this?", then read a few pages and say... "Oh yeah I remember".
Then there are the books that make you think. These books stick with you and follow you around like a verse in a song that you can't get out of your head. These are my personal favorites, though I can't read these as often, because, well... they can overwhelm. Some that come to mind is Fight Club, The Catcher in the Rye, and Lord of the Flies. You never forget reading them.
To pick one favorite for me is kinda like picking a favorite food... today is pizza, tomorrow it's steak. It drifts depending on my mood.
But, with that said... right now I would say Fight Club because it was so different! I never read a book so out of control. You really feel like you are reading someone's thoughts. I wish I read it before seeing the movie. :)
One of my favorite lesser known books is "Voices of Dragons" by Carrie Vaughn. Unfortunately, it never got a sequel, which I am still waiting for four years later because the damn book left off at a cliff hanger. It's about an alternate Earth in which the dragons of myths and legends suddenly become real. The preface of the story is after the Hiroshima Bombing that ended WWII, woke up dragons that were hibernating deep in the earth for the past millenia. They rose to the surface, which of course terrified the civilians so WWIII broke out until at last the humans and the dragons came to a truce. The dragons got chunks of land all over the world and the humans and dragons swore to never encounter one another. Fast forward to modern day Colorado where the Border crosses through. 16 year old Kay goes free-climbing right along side the border, however she slips into a rapid river and is then rescued by a dragon. After learning the dragon, named Artegal, can speak English, Kay and Artegal begin a friendship that eventually develops into a bond HTTYD-esque. Kay gradually learns how to fly on the back of Artegal until one day, a border patrol plane accidentally loses control when the plane malfunctions and crosses over the Dragon border and sees Kay and Artegal together. Pretty soon after they are spotted, there are a bunch of more instances that I won't reveal that eventually leads to preparations for WWIV and Artegal and Kay have to figure out how to stop the war. There is no giant dragon battle scene at the end that unites the two races, but what it does have is great originality. Carrie Vaughn does a great job describing the flight scenes. In fashion of HTTYD, the flight scenes make you wish you could ride on the back of dragons. There was one element of the book I didn't like - other than the fact the ending was a cliff hanger - and that was Kay's best friend being obsessed with sex and giving Kay this idea that you aren't a real teenager unless you've had sex. But what redeems this aspect is Kay is the reluctant romancer, meaning that she doesn't focus entirely on getting a boyfriend. She does have one, but he is no means the main plot of the book. It's all about Artegal and Kay's friendship and the war between dragons and humans. It's a nice and refreshing read from all those dumb YA novels that have the girl with the unnecessary long flowing dress on the cover that actual has nothing to do with the book or the main protagonist. It's my favorite book though because it's a simple, but unique plot line and the mix of dragons in a modern human society was done perfectly. Plus it really inspired me to write my own novel about flying dragons. I have this idea that if you have the ability to fly, to truly feel the open skies and wind around you, there is no freedom more equivalent to that. And up there you could be free of responsibilities or whatever past thoughts, judgments or whatever to haunt you. You are completely free, and I think that is what part of Voices of Dragons was trying to convey during the flying scenes. Anyway, this is a good book and I highly recommend it.
I don't really have a particular favourite book, but I do have favourite authors. Ellen Hopkins is one of them. I love her work so much. The way she writes makes you feel like you are not only reading it but watching it up close and personal. She somehow makes the words physical!! She's amazing!! The first book of her I ever read was impulse and it got me hooked. She's a bit cynical in her writing but it just makes it better!
I like many books, but also like hierarchies - trying to make order in my head. All the books that I gave 5 stars to on goodreads are excellent!
Caitlin I also love all of john Green books but I haven't got time to start reading the divergent trilogy because im finishing vampire academy series
Guys this is off topic but does anyone know how to comment pictures on here? And btw i don't have a fave but i have fallen in love w/ thg, hp, tfios, divergent, and im in the middle of the Percy jackson series. I also just finished the hush hush series and it was fantastic! I highly recommend it!!!
I love all John Green books (they're amazing). I also love Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult. I haven't finished reading it yet but it has been really good so far. The only problem with it is that I have cryed so many times throughout the novel.
My three favorite books are The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, and Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. It's really hard to choose my favorite books, but I love these three so much!
OMG I LOVE those books too! :D great minds think alike I guess. But other than those I like anything by John Green of corse. To pick one I like....The Hunger Games trilogy and Out of My Mjnd by Sharon Draper.
Can u guys believe I havent read the hunger games trilogy yet because I am currently reading the vampire academy series and I recommend to anyone and PLEASE READ THE BOOKS FIRSRT then watch the movies .
My favorite book would have to be The Giver by Lois Lowry. I think my favorite part of it is the ending! Obviously I'm not going to say what it is, but I thoroughly enjoyed it when I read it 5 years ago! And no, I'm not seeing the movie because I love how the book is pictured in my head ;)

Hi! OK, so when you're typing, you see the '(some html is ok)' thing above the comment box? You click it. You'll see the 'image' option, and you just copy the code next to it and then paste it.
Then, if you're trying to post a picture off google images, you right click the image and select 'copy image URL'.
Then go back to that jumbled code thing you inserted before and, in that bit where it goes "http://www.goodreads.com/image..."- backspace all of that, apart for the speech marks, and paste the image URL in between it instead. Then you get the measurements of the image (if you're on Google images, it should say somewhere that it's 432 x 173 or something)and in the bit where it goes width="40" height="100", replace the numbers in the speech marks with the measurements.
Whew! Hope that helped. Let me know if you still don't get it, and good luck. :)

Throne of Glass series.... It's just wow. The story line is so unique and breathtaking. What I really loved about this series though was the character development. The characters all grew and learned and developed in a way I have never seen in a book before.
I have to say my favorite book the Harry Potter series. if I had to pick one the 5th harry might of been annoying but all the Luna moments n the DA was awesome
I adore this book, I recommend it to everyone! I guess if you're not a fan of historical fiction you might not like it, but the imagery and emotion are fantastic and it's got a great narrator ;) you should check it out!
I don't think that I can pick an favourite because every book is trying to send out a different message. Sometimes I feel like reading a lighthearted book. So I can't pick.
It's a rather impossible thing to pick a favorite book; there's simply too many great ones that are great in so many different ways to compare them to each other. However, the books that have undoubtedly had the most influence on my life would be the Harry Potter series, which not only jump-started my interest in reading (I hated it in first grade, but by third grade you couldn't get me to stop) but also provided me with characters I came to view as friends and role models. Since then I've read the books so many times it's embarrassing, though I never lose at trivia. ;)
Night Road~ Kristin Hannah I can relate with it and i love how it’s like the experiences people in real life experience. She emphasizes on how life, love and family can be hard to be balance and can overwhelm you. She describes the emotions of her characters deeply and realistically. She covers every detail and more about her character. She writes to a large audience; parents and kids etc. I was so sad when I finished the book, I read it a bunch of times because of how good it is.
