Maya panted as she finally made it to her house. She took a deep breath and looked at the house. She was so scared. She glanced around before hesitantly walking towards the door her head down

Josh followed her waiting at the outside of her house. He started to creep up. He wondered why she was so scared. Josh stayed out of sight in the bushes.

Maya trembled as she reached for the door knob of the house. She swallowed. No she couldn't go inside!! Maybe she'd just wait until the morning.... Maya's thoughts were cut off as the door was jerked open and maya was sent forward with the door. She stumbled and fell on her butt... No..
"Your late don't you think." A deep low voice echoed Maya's ears. She trembled.
"I know." She whispered
"You know?" He laughed and then he reached down and hauled her up to her feet by her hair. She let out a small yelp and squirmed. "Go clean!" He demanded and glared upon her

Josh saw her dad through the window. Anger filled him. But he took a deep breath. Josh ran up and knocked on the door. He had to help her somehow.

Her father was about to slap her when the knock echoed through the house. Maya had her eyes squeezed shut. He shoved her away and then straightened his clothes. He opened the door then with a bright smile. "Hello boy, how may I help you?@

"Oh! You must be Maya's father. Sorry to interrupt but Maya and I are partners in Science. We have this project to do you see. And I was wondering when we could get together to finish it. Since it's due very soon." Josh says calmly.

He tilted his head. "Is that so?"

Maya eyes widened! What was he doing! He was going to get himself hurt. Oh josh!!!

"Yes sir. And I'm sorry she was late. We were working on it after school as well. And time just got away from us." Josh replies. He ignores Maya.

"How did you know she was late? How do you know she lives here?" He asked.
Maya trembled. No.... He would think that she told Josh! Oh gods!

"Because were old friends." Josh tells her father. He wasn't intimated at all. Josh stared right back at Maya's father.

"Then you need to leave. She is busy right now." He glared.

"She doesn't look busy to me. And anyways do you want her and I to get an F on her paper because of this misunderstanding? I don't think my parents would be happy with you." Josh retorts.

"Fine." He spun around and gripped Maya's arm tightly making her yelp. He shoved her out the door. "Have fun and be back before dark!"

"Thank you sir. See you soon." Josh says and leaves the porch bringing Maya with him. He turns and glares at her. But then his expression softens.
"May I ask what that was all about? And are you ok?" He asks her.

Maya ducked her head and blushed. She rubbed her arm and looked away. "Why did you follow me."

"Well you looked like you were running to your death when you left me. So I followed to see if you would be ok. Obviously not. I'm glad I did though." Josh tells her.
Then he takes her arm gently, and lifts the sleeve. He saw a bruise.

Maya looked away.. She was ashamed. She felt tears running down her cheeks.

Josh wiped away her tears.
"Here calm down its fine now." He says then he hugs her trying to comfort her. Josh was afraid for her. But he just wanted to be with her right now.

Maya sobbed into his chest. Her arms falling to her sides. She was terrified.

Josh stroked her hair trying to calm her down. He bent down and while red in her ear.
"It's fine now don't worry. As long as in breathing you'll be safe ok?" He asks her. Josh pulls her tighter to him.

Maya nodded and sobbed. "Y-you c-can't t-tell anyone!" She whispered

"I won't right now. But If I see one bruise or mark on you from him I will. And I mean it. I may even give him a visit." Josh replies to her. He stroked her hair.

"N-no josh... You can't.." She whispered clinging to him.

Josh shakes his head.
"We'll talk about this later. But right now are you ok?" Josh asks her. He gently takes a look at her arm again.

"N-no..." She whispered. Her voice trembled.

"Ok, let's go over to my house your dad is watching us through the window. I'll just fix you up at mine." Josh tells her. He starts to pull her along with him gently.
"It's only a block away." He tells her.

Josh held Maya's hand the whole way to her house. He brought her to her front porch. Josh looked at her for a long moment.
"Are you sure you'll be fine here?" Josh asks.

"Yes!" She grinned. "I'm sure he is sleeping anyway!" She giggled. A smile planted on her lips. She sighed and looked up at him.

Josh felt a urge to lean in to her but wasn't sure if she would like it or not. So he smiled and kissed her forehead.
"You have my number right? Make sure to call me if anything happens." Josh tells her again.

"Of course josh." She smiled. She liked the feel of his lips on her head. She leaped up and hugged him tightly

Josh held her tight to him. His arms wrapped around her. Josh kissed her forehead again softly.
"I better go. Call me if needed." Josh says letting go slowly.

Maya sighed and waved before walking towards her house. She trembled again. She took a deep breath before entering the house.

Josh started to walk away. He felt uncomfortable by leaving her but he had too. Josh walked down to the sidewalk. He waved finally before making his way to his house.

Maya creeped up the stairs silently. But that wasn't quite enough. Her father came storming out of his room. His eyes blazing with anger. Maya stepped back in a panic. "A-stop!" She whispered. She went to run down the stairs when he grabbed her arms force fully and dragged her upstairs. She lost her footing and her legs dragged against the carpet. "Daddy!" She tried pulling away from him. Tears falling down her cheeks. Once the reached the top, maya crying, he slapped her sending her into the wall.
"You stupid girl!"

Josh was at his house again in his room. He was freaking out. Josh wasn't happy that he had no is to what Maya was doing right now. So he called her. Josh was too impatient.

Maya held her cheek. Tears falling down her face. "Daddy please stop!" She pleaded. Her phone rang. Josh. She hurried and went to pick it up. "Jo---" she was cut off as the phone was sent flying.
"You don't listen to me!" He hissed and he picked her up throwing her small body across the room. She yelped as she hit the wall. "J-Josh..." She whispered weakly.

When Josh heard her voice he dropped the phone and went sprinting to her house. He was there in less then three minutes. Josh ran up to the door and started knocking. He couldn't help her if he was arrested for breaking into someone's house. So Josh was force to knock instead. He was going insane in his mind knowing she was hurt.

By the time Josh had got there maya was already badly beaten. She laid there on the floor unconscious and bleeding also bruised. Her father cursed and went to the door and opened it. "Go away!@ he hissed

Josh wanted to punch the guy right in the face but he kept his cool.
"Let me see Maya or I'm calling the cops. Your choice, I know what you do and right now I have proof. So choose wisely." Josh snaps.

He smirked. "Might have to anyway.... " he glared. "She might be dying..." He shrugged. "Go ahead and see what happens." He whined and opened the door for the kid.

Josh laughed he took out his cellphone and held it in front of Maya's father. He even typed in 911 so all he would have to press it the call button.
"Don't be stupid." Josh snaps before watching into the house. However he was ready if Maya after made any move to him.
