Hello everyone - Can you believe that it is the start of November already!! My goodness. What are you reading this month? I am finishing up Grace by Natashia Deon - it is my book club book. I certainly have feelings about it.

What are you all reading?

Russell

Jody (jodyforsythe) Russell, it will be Thanksgiving before we know it!
I have slacked off quite a bit in the reading department. I'm currently reading Cold Sassy Tree. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, as I felt like it was starting out kind of slow for me. Now I'm curious to see what happens.
Also, I am reading Shanghai Girls which is set in the 1930's. I wasn't sure about this one either, but it is a really good read.
If I ever get these two books finished I'd like to participate in the non-fiction November.

Lynn | 2 comments I am currently trying to finish The Heart's Invisible Furies & Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine. I have to return them to the library and I also want to start my non-fiction November picks 🤗

I loved loved loved Eleanor! I think that is an under rated book. I want to get to The Heart's Invisible Furies as well - but what a big book that is!! LOL. You will have to tell me what you think.

Lisa (lu30) | 5 comments I am still in Halloween mode so I've just finished The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and I'm re-reading The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle on audio - my first PD James book.

I loved Eleanor too and would like to read The Heart's Invisible Furies - I've heard such good things! I did have it out from the library but couldn't fit it in my schedule - will certainly try again though. I love John Boyne.

Jody (jodyforsythe) Russell, Yes, Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. I'm really enjoying it so far.

Lynn | 2 comments I literally just finished Eleanor Oliphant and I loved it! A definite 5⭐️read for me. That's 2 books in a row that I have given 5⭐️the other being The Hearts Invisible Furies. Russell it's a long book however it's really easy to read. It's also split into parts which are good breaking points if needed. I loved the story, characters and the writing! It helps that it's set mostly in Ireland and I was able to get the references. Definitely one of my 2017 favourites 🤗

Christopher | 5 comments I am not sure of everything I plan on reading this month, but I am trying to branch out and read some stuff I wouldn't normally read. I am going to pick up a YA this month which is Release by Patrick Ness. And I am going to pick up a graphic novel which will be Monsters volume 1. Who knows, maybe I will end up liking this whole trying new things out.

message 10: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 7 comments Christopher I loved Release. I am super excited for you to read it.

message 11: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillglove) I will finish "Lincoln in the Bardo" this morning and hopefully finished reading "Rain, Four Walks in English Weather" this weekend as it's supposed to rain. I'm halfway through "The Visitors" as well as "The Novice's Tale "so I should wrap those up as well.

There is an anthology called "Winter" which I'll start on the 22nd and read one poem or short story every day until winter is over in March. I did this last year with the Autumn anthology and loved it..

From there, who knows?

C (catherinebowdler) | 5 comments Recently finished Winter by Ali Smith and can't pick up another a book at the moment. Its wonderful, just sublime writing, better than Autumn I think. I am now well and truly an Ali Smith devotee.

Continue to plough through the 30hour+ audiobook of Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges. It's a fascinating story of a remarkable man but there is quite a lot of maths, a LOT of maths (well, duh).

When I can't face Alan and his giant mathematics brain I'm also listening to The Year of Living Danishly by Helen Russell. It's OK, a welcome light relief from Alan. Nothing to write home about though. Denmark comes across as so bloody amazing it's crossed over into being creepy. I don't think the author desired this effect for the reader.

message 27: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (thereadingmom) | 6 comments Finishing up Riverine by Angela Palm for non-fiction November. It's a memoir and I've enjoyed it. I've stared The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde because I've decided I want to always have a classic going, no matter how long it takes me to get through it. I also have started the Argonauts by Maggie Nelson and am having a bit of a time getting into it although I really enjoyed her book The Red Parts last year.

Currently Reading, and almost half way done with The Revolution of Marina M. by Janet Fitch. Set in the 1916-1918 Russia during the Revolution! It’s a huge tome at 800 pages, but it is so good! I love how Fitch is telling the story! This is the first book I have read by this author, and I am impressed!
