Conspiracy theories welcome.

Well, that's what they would be. Conspiracy theories, by their very nature can never be proven. Which is what makes them so damn appealing!

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this topic, Ahmad...

Ever heard of René Girard? You might be interested in this: http://erikbuys.files.wordpress.com/2...

Much less ambitious than Ozymandias' goal. Other than that, you'd be hardpressed to guess this book was written in the 80s as it certainly does seem to have parallels - including the notebook that ends up in the submissions basket at the end.

I think that if there is any correlation between the book an 9/11 it's in the post 9/11 America. The whole 'Who watches the Watchmen' motif. After the advent of the 'Patriot Act' and the NSA spying scandal the book certainly has relevance on what happens when governments (or superhero groups) are left unchecked and believe that they are best line of defense against ourselves. It raises the question of how long can it be before a government hired goon jumps out of an aircraft, guns blazing, to protect us from them?

Well I read it in the 1990s when smiley faces were everywhere and no one knew why. In 2001 Irecalled Alan Moore's comment about Nostradamus: "Was he predicting the future or writing it?"

I recently came across an essay titled 'Adapting Watchmen after 9/11' by Bob Rehak from 2011 that might be of interest to you.
