I'm helping a student find some some books about overcoming obstacles. He enjoyed In the Sea There are Crocodiles: Based on the True Story of Enaiatollah Akbari. Any thoughts from anybody?

One that springs to mind is a YA novel I read a few months ago called Running on the Roof of the World. But as you'll see in my review, it's not one for sensitive readers. I think it's about the same age range as your example Suzanne. Send me a direct message if you'd like more information about what the shocking incident is.

Thank you Andrea, and to Brenda for prompting me to check back on this thread. He's a uni student, so over 18 is all I know. My colleague that was helping him didn't mention an age specifically, so I just assume a young uni student - anywhere from 18 upwards. I will now look into Andrea's recommendation. What lovely helpful people are my lovely Aussie Reader friends <3
