Hey, Gray. So, what's your favorite genre to write? Are you doing NaNoWriMo?Also are you reading any good books? Or watching any really interesting TV series?
Just looking for some discussion starters ;)

I like writing general fiction/suspense, and I wish I was doing NaNo, but I'm not. :/
I'm not reading any good books at the moment, but that will probably changed soon!
How about you?
I like fantasy YA, but honestly I'll do any genre of speculative fiction. I'm not officially doing NaNo, but I am working on writing a story (probably won't have it finished by the end of November, but I'm interested to see how far I can get). Do you want to hear about it?I've got a whole line up of books to read, but with all the college required reading I have it's all I can do to keep up with my regular school reading :/

I haven't read any of your books yet, but I need to--they look and sound amazing.
Ick. Required reading is the worst!
Thanks! What story are you working on?
Here's the synopsis for the book I'm writing for "NaNoWriMo" League of Thieves...
Damian and Creyn are street urchins whose fortunes change when they are hired to steal and object from an important nobleman. This object turns out to be a jinni's lamp as well as a map to a legendary treasure. Damian and Creyn decide to keep their loot instead of giving it to the person who hired them in the hopes of finding the legendary treasure.
Evona and her brother Jakor always seem to mess up their heists, and this time is no different. They didn't get to the lamp in time to steal it for their employer, someone got there first. Now they must work with a mercenary by the name of Radmir to get the lamp back. Because their employer wants that lamp, no matter the costs.
Radmir is a bit of a lone wolf, but now he finds himself paired with accident prone siblings who always seem to get themselves into trouble, as they work together to find the thieves. If they find the treasure along the way... so much the better. But they have to catch up with the thieves who have a head start.
Reluctantly Radmir enlists the aid of his arch nemesis Sahir, a smuggler who has betrayed him every time they have worked together in the past.
Adilah is a female assassin who must keep her gender a secret in order to remain in her line of business. She has been hired by Damian and Creyn's former employer to track down the miscreants and deal with them the permanent way and bring him the lamp. But she has something far more nefarious in mind than simply doing what she was hired to do.
However instead of finding the treasure they hope for, this group of unlikely heroes awaken an ancient evil which is unleashed upon the world. And it's now up to them to stop it before it destroys civilization as they know it.
Alyssa. "I'm not heartless. I just learned to use my heart less" wrote: "Dont mind me but WOW NICKI! I wanna read it!!!!!"Haha :) I love this story so much. It's like the Mummy meets Prince of Persia, meets Guardians of the Galaxy. With a world that is Rome meets Persia, meets the Greek City states, meets Egypt...
Only in my brain would I come up with such a mash up ;)
I've only got about four chapters done, and it's a very rough draft... but here's hoping the rest of November will be fruitful.
It sounds amazing! Like Alyssa, I want to read it!! XDI'm working on a novella called Of Broken Things and Paint Splatterings, it's kind of hard to explain...

So was mine. It didn't stop me though ;)
Aren't complicated stories the best? And then you try to explain them to people and they have just stare at you blankly.

It's hard for me to explain it because I'm a planster, I usually don't know what's going to happen, I just go along with it! ^_^
They are! But I think my friends think I'm crazy... :P
I'm a planster too. As in I like to think of myself as a panster but I actually have to plot. League of Thieves is actually the most I have ever plotted for a story before. It's kind of crazy how I come to a new scene and all I have to do is check my notes and know what happens next :PMy first book I didn't even know what I would do the next day... but that was the only time I truly wrote off the seat of my pants.
My other stories have been a sort of hybrid

I'm still developing my craft, but I'm certainly learning a lot. And every time I learn something I realize that there is so much more to still learn.
Nicki wrote: "I'm still developing my craft, but I'm certainly learning a lot. And every time I learn something I realize that there is so much more to still learn."Same, I have a lot to learn myself.
If I had known writing would be so hard I would have picked an easier pastime. Unfortunately I thought that writing would actually be the easy way out, by the time I discovered how wrong I was it was too late. I was already hooked.
Nicki wrote: "If I had known writing would be so hard I would have picked an easier pastime. Once you're in, you're doomed to this life of first drafts, editing, and late nights in front of your laptop! :P
Hitting your head on the wall as you try to figure out how to express your thoughts without using cliche terms...Pulling out your hair as you notice plot holes...
Ah, it's the life.

It really is, I wouldn't trade it for the world. ☺

So, I saw that you're re-reading one of your old works, how's that going?
Tiresome. This is may be the hundredth time I'm rereading it. I've rewritten it four times so... yeah, but there were some changes that needed to be made, and some changes that I wanted to make. I've been working on rewriting it since the beginning of Summer, by now I've made it to the editing stage, but I still desperately want it to be done, and not just so it can finally go back up for sale...Have you ever considered rewriting some of your previous works that you wrote when you were younger?

Gray wrote: "Nicki wrote: "Tiresome. This is may be the hundredth time I'm rereading it. I probably would have given up on it and left it as it was, but I still have two books to write after it and Time of Trepidation... so I was kind of in a jam.
Would you be interested in Beta reading it? It's okay if you aren't, I know life can get busy. I'm just looking to get extra eyes and opinions on it.

Sure, as optimistic as I am I doubt I'll be able to republish it until January anyway. Do you think you could have it read by the end of December? It's around three hundred eighty pages, one hundred fifteen thousand words...

I'm going to apologize in advance if I don't reply, I just took some sleeping pills and I'm waiting for them to kick in. :)

I just got out of surgery an hour ago.
What have you been doing? ^-^
Oh wow... yeah, I remember you mentioning something about it. Was it an oral surgery...?Not fun. When I had my first surgery earlier last year I was doped out from the pain meds I was almost too dizzy to read.
Hope you're feeling better soon, and have a speedy recovery!
I've been doing relatively well. Started school today, but honestly, I think I need the more regimented schedule. Without it I just don't know what to do with myself :P

Yes, it was an oral surgery. Luckily, my pain medicine is still working.
Thanks!
Ick, school. XP

Ew, not fun. And you know, what's really weird, but that's exactly what I said after my oral surgery, "Thank goodness for my pain meds..."
Yeah, school... though to be honest since it's my senior year, it's actually super light. Plus I'm reading Emma and Three Men in a Boat (hilarious!) for it, so it's not that bad. Though I'll be restarting college in a week, so that'll make it a lot harder.

Well, I mean thank goodness, it would be so much for painful without it! XD
That's good! Best of luck on college.

That was my thought process exactly!
I'm actually pretty excited, since it's English literature (I just finished Cosmology so you see where I'm coming from) though it means I probably won't read leisurely for a while, because as I mentioned, I'm already reading Emma and Three Men in a Boat, and I'm going to be starting Wuthering Heights soon (senior year is British lit)
