The Air Is Thin Up Here!
So guess what you guys, I ended up making a list. Ha ha. But since I'm doing the Serial Reader challenge again in one of my other groups, I am mostly focusing on series books that I either haven't started yet or that I started and then never got back to, so I will be reading a lot of shorter books like I intended. I have probably at least a hundred cozy mystery books that I've been "saving", so I'm hoping to knock out a bunch of those. That was my intention for this year too, but then I ended up re-reading the Dark Tower series and some other really long books, and that took up a lot of my time this year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! Finished my first TBR for the year, An Open Spook by E.J. Copperman. This is a series I started last year, and I'm hoping to get caught up on it this year.
Finished TBR #2 for the year, Hail to the Chef by Julie Hyzy. This is another series I'm hoping to complete this year (I think this series was discontinued by the publisher).
Finished TBR #3 for the year, Old Scores by Will Thomas. I'm caught up on this series until the next book comes out!
Finished TBR #4 for the year, The Wedding Dress by Mary O'Donnell. I'm really far behind on this series, but these books are fairly short and quick to read so I hope to get caught up on these by the end of the year.
Finished TBR #5 for the year, Shades of Earl Grey by Laura Childs. I know I won't get completely caught up on this series this year, but I hope to make some progress on it. I just started reading these last year and I really like them!
Finished TBR #6 for the year, 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King. I'm counting this as a TBR since it's been at least 20 years since I read it originally (if I'm being honest, it's probably more like 30 years). I think I read it in high school and I must have gotten it from the library because I couldn't find it in my collection, so I bought a copy over a year ago. I had planned to read it last year when I finished up the Dark Tower series, but decided to take a break from King books for a few months instead!
Finished TBR #8 for the year, Warcross by Marie Lu. I bought this book last year and had intended to read it in December, but ran out of time. I really enjoyed this one and I hope to read some of her other books too.
Catherine wrote: "Finished TBR #8 for the year, Warcross by Marie Lu. I bought this book last year and had intended to read it in December, but ran out of time. I really enjoyed this..." I got this last year as well, as soon as it came out, but couldn't find the time to read it - other books got in the way. It's on my TBR this year, as well as another one of her trilogies. So excited!
I definitely need to try some of her other books. This was my first book of hers and I really liked it!
Finished TBR #9 for the year, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. I'm counting this as a TBR for two reasons: one is that I haven't read it in decades (in fact, I think I was so young the first time my mom read it out loud to me and my brother) and two is that "my" copy of the book disappeared -- I think it was in my mom's book collection, so it either got donated or sold when my mom went in the nursing home. Anyway, I bought a new copy of it last year since I wanted to re-read it before the movie comes out in March!
Finished TBR #11 for the year, The Troop by Nick Cutter. I'm not sure how long this one has been in my TBR pile ... I think at least two years. Possibly more. It was good, very gory and scary!
Finished TBR #12 for the year, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. This is another book that I purchased last year that I didn't get to until now. I loved it. I didn't want it to end!
I can finally update this again! I've been reading a lot, but not TBRs :( Finished TBR #13 for the year, A Terrible Beauty by Tasha Alexander. This one has been in my pile for at least a year. I really like this series but got behind on it. This one came out near the end of 2016 and I'm not sure if I bought it then or a few months later, but I hadn't gotten to it until now. I bought the most recent book in the series last year so plan to read that one soon too.
Finished TBR #15, The Valise In The Attic by Jan Fields. This is one of the Annie's Attic books and I'm really behind on these. I bought this one in 2015, so I have a lot of catching up to do! I like these books because I can read them in one sitting and they're nice, "light" reading.
Finished TBR #17, The Thrill of the Haunt by E.J. Copperman. This is one of the series that I'm trying to get caught up on. I bought this book almost two years ago *sigh* but I really do think I can get this series done by the end of the year!
Finished TBR #18 for the year, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and TBR #19, How the Marquis Got His Coat Back also by Neil Gaiman. I bought both of these books last year, although I've been wanting to read Neverwhere for a few years now.
Finished TBR #20 for the year, Mother's Day Out by Karen MacInerney. This is a series I've been wanting to read for a while, although I just bought this book for my Kindle last year. Hoping to read the other two books in the series this year too.
Finished TBR #21 for the year, The Power by Naomi Alderman. This is another book that I bought last year but hadn't gotten to yet.
Finished TBR #22 for the year, Mother Knows Best by Karen MacInerney. I bought this one for my Kindle last year, although I've been wanting to read this series for a while.
Finally finished another TBR!! TBR #23 for the year, The Unfinished Sonata by K.D. McCrite. This is another of the Annie's Attic books that I am so behind on. This one's been on my shelf for at least two years. :)
Ugh, it's been almost a month but I finished TWO TBRs today!! #24 The Indifferent Stars Above: The Harrowing Saga of a Donner Party Bride by Daniel James Brown. This one's been in my TBR pile for years. Probably four years at least.
#25 The English Breakfast Murder by Laura Childs. This one was from last year although I've been wanting to read this series for a while. I'm making very slow progress on this series, but I'm enjoying it. It's a nice cozy mystery series.
Finished another TBR today.#26 for the year is The Plot Is Murder by V.M. Burns. When I bought this book last year I thought for once I would get ahead of the game since this is the first book of a new series. Of course as usual that didn't work out since I just now read it and the second book is already out :) But at least I'm not 10 books behind like I am with some other cozy series books I read!!
FINALLY finished another TBR! TBR #27 for the year was The Arsonist by Stephanie Oakes. This was another book that I bought last year but didn't get to until now.I'm hoping to get a lot of reading done this weekend. I have two non-TBR books going right now, but I'm going to start one or two TBRs this weekend.
Finished TBR #28 for the year, Inspector Specter by E.J. Copperman. This is another one of the Haunted Guesthouse books that I bought almost two years ago. I only have a few more books to go and I'll be caught up on this series!
Finished TBR #29 for the year, The Stolen Canvas by Marlene Chase. This is another book in the Annie's Attic series. I think this one is from 2016 or early 2017.
Finished TBR #30 for the year, The Sister by Louise Jensen. This one was a Kindle book and I'm not sure how long I've had it but I know it's been over a year. One of my friends wanted to "borrow" it so we tried out the loan system through Amazon, so of course once she read it she was bugging me to read it too. It was a pretty fast read!
Finished TBR #31 for the year, A Man Of His Word #15 by Karen Kelly. This is another Annie's Attic book. I'm still several books behind on this series so I'll probably be adding a lot of these. They are a little cheesy but a nice break from the other more serious books I'm reading. The other TBR I'm reading now is over 500 pages, so it's taking me a long time.
Finished TBR #32 for the year, The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. This is the 500-plus page book I talked about in my last update. I liked it a lot, but it felt like it took me a long time to finish it. I read several big books last year so this year I've tried to take it a little easier on myself. LOL.
Finished TBR #33 for the year, In a Cottage In a Wood by Cass Green. This is a book I bought last year but didn't get to until now. The year is officially half over and I'm not quiet half done with this challenge. Still hoping I can meet my goal though!
Finished TBR #34 for the year, The Hole by Hye-Young Pyun. This is a book I bought last year that I hadn't gotten to yet.
Finished TBR #35 for the year, Ghost in the Wind by E.J. Copperman. This is another one of the Haunted Guesthouse books. I've had this one for about a year and a half. I'm ALMOST caught up on this series!
Finished TBR #36 for the year, The Key In The Attic by DeAnna Julie Dodson. This is another Annie's Attic book. Still have several to go but it's nice to be finishing some of these!
Finished TBR #37 for the year, Road Trip! by Jan Fields. This is another Annie's Attic book. I'm now only 2 books away from hitting 100 books for the year, so I'm reading some shorter books to make that goal (and these books are helping with this challenge as well)!I'm reading two other TBRs right now, plus a re-read which won't count toward this challenge and I just picked up a library book tonight which also won't count toward this challenge. I'm feeling better about getting this challenge done though!
Finished TBR #38 for the year, Copy Cat by Alex Lake. This is a book I bought last year that I hadn't gotten to yet.
Finished TBR #39 for the year, The Tapestry In The Attic by Mary O'Donnell. This one is from 2016, so I still have a ways to go with this series, but I'm getting there!
Finished TBR #40 for the year, Photo Finished by Laura Childs. I bought this book almost THREE years ago. I read the first book in the series and thought it was okay, and then haven't gotten back to the series until now. This one started out a little slow for me, but it got better as it went along. I have the next two books in the series to read, also as TBRs, and then I'm not sure if I'll read any more of them after that or not. If I do, it probably won't be until next year since I'm going to focus on other TBRs for the rest of the year so I can finish this challenge!
Finished TBR #41 for the year, Betrayed by Lisa Scottoline. I'm really behind on this series -- this one has been on my TBR shelf since 2014. I'm planning to start the next book in the series tomorrow or Monday.
Finished TWO TBRs today!TBR #42 is The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid. This one has been in my pile since 2016.
TBR #43 is Double Strike by Gretchen Archer. This one has been in my pile since 2015. I'm several books behind on this series so I'm hoping to read a few more this year.
Finished TBR #44 for the year, Corrupted by Lisa Scottoline. According to Goodreads, this one has only been in my pile since last year, but I think I've actually had it longer than that and just didn't "catalog" it until last year. I'm still trying to get caught up on this series but I have two more to read before the new one comes out next month.

I'm going to try doing things differently in 2018 and not set a list ahead of time. (It's entirely possible that I'll change my mind before Jan. 1 about this!) I really want to have an "easy" year and just read a bunch of shorter books rather than putting pressure on myself to read all the long books that I've been putting off. I like the idea of just grabbing a book off the shelf when I'm in the mood for it. But I also REALLY like making lists, so we'll see how this goes.
