Is it just me, or do two of these tend to intersect?

I was surprised to see Outlander on the 'alpha-male' list; still haven't gotten to this one so I'm questioning how accurate that tag might be. Was not surprised to see all of the Twilight series listed.

The Name of the Wind is listed under 'demons'. I've really been wanting to get to this one but my library only has one copy and there's already three holds on the dang thing. Maybe in 2018.

Outlander totally fits alpha male! Lol. Actually, I bet some of my cheesy Christmas romances do too.

And, joi, I had the same thought as you: Society in October, African American in November (when many people focused their reads on social aspects), and then social issues for December. I may be society-ed out.

Also, this could be the third month in a row that I SAY I am going to read Americanah. And then don’t.

This is the first time I only used 1 vote. And I did the equivalent of a coin toss - I picked up a book on my desk, opened it at random, and the first word on the left-had page started with an a ("after"), so it was alpha male for me. I might have to re-read a book if none of my favorite series with alpha males have anything new!

Voted. I normally vote outside my comfort zone but no way do I want to be reading about alpha males or demons around Christmas time

OK - I haven't looked at the lists closely, but I have to say that I am likely to throw my vote to anything other than social issues. Between, American, Society, and African American, this would be the fourth month of similar themed books. I actually like the diversity the tags bring, and between award winners this year and some others, we have been somewhat lacking. Multicultural? This from the lady who abhors fantasy and loves historical fiction. But true. However, I may not give more than a vote or two, because it looks like social issues may win and why waste my votes? If and when it does, I can finally read the Undoing Project. I can't believe I am actually leaning towards finding myself a palatable demon.... Gotta look more closely at the lists.

OK after 10 pages of search I can indeed tell you there is no palatable demon. After 10 additional pages of search, I can tell you I have not found a palatable alpha male either. What is a gal to do? Endure the fourth month of society I suppose and hope Nicole finally reads Americanah.....

OK - figured out that if demons win, a person could read the Winter Witch by Paula Brockton and fulfill december fall flurries at the same time. Also, The Return of the Witch, by the same author, sequel to the Witches Daughter probably also qualifies. Now - how should I spend my one vote?

I have 31 books on my shelf that I tagged demons. Most of them I gave 4 stars (Name of the Wind got 5 stars from me). If demons wins I will help you find one that is palatable Amy. I don't read much paranormal romance so most of these are paranormal mysteries or young adult.

Voted and I threw all my points at my choice. :)

I figured demons could include a person’s personal demon. It may be a stretch.. I have had enough of “alpha male” wannabes by watching the news this last month!

I don't use any of these tags, but I think most of the Harry Dresden books would qualify for both alpha male and demons.

I think The Exorcist would also qualify for demons

Wow I think the randomizer is against us enjoying light reading in December :-). I threw one vote at what seems to be the popular choice. I read City of Bones earlier this year and liked it enough to want to continue the series so I guess I could read the next book no matter which tag wins :-)

I think we got REALLY lucky with Short Stories as last year's December pick.

Dropping in quickly during a Very Busy Week and voted. Two of the choices were rather abysmal, I think, at least for this time of year, so I sure hope the one I voted for wins (shocking, I know).

I guess a personal demon is a daemon. Wasn't that what Pullman called the paired animal spirit of all sane humans in his fantasy trilogy starting with The Golden Compass? Hesse's Demian reminds me of a tradition of alter egos or souls. Your thought got me wondering if the demon tag is applied only to evil beings. Touring Wiki was interedting.

Daemons or daimons can be benevolent spirits or ghosts. The word derives from Ancient Greek for a class of minor gods, with a root meaning to divide as in diverting and assigning fate. Somehow under the Roman and Byzantine periods the version of the word we have as demon became malevolent, a devil that can be conjured, controlled, or can take possession of someone until exorcised. So god knows how the average reader applies the tag.

I'm over anything socity related, don't want to read about alpha males. I've gone through everyone of my 400+ books that I own. I have 2 that will fit this tag. Fingers crossed for demons.

Yes - we had society, then we had African American which had a lot of societal topics. And now we have social issues.

I was actually referring to a person’s vices, problems, or what have you, that could be referred to as their demons. But Golden Compass is on my TBR...

And American before that, which seemed also to have a crapload of social themes. Although I read Gone With the Wind (plus two other books). I've personally decided a demon would be welcome. Especially if Cora is going to be my palatable demon finder.

The only daemons I want to read about are the daemons of His Dark Materials. Just so happens Philp Pullman has published the first book of his new trilogy-The Book of Dust. I'm reading that for sure!

But that's not what I voted for.
No way I'm reading about alpha males- maybe one day. Too much all the time about sexual harassment and abuse. Maybe when its not all over the news all the time.(Surviver of two sexual harassment incidents and a sexual assault)

So guess what I voted for ?????? Yeah, the one with lots of choice and variety.
