Bobby sat in a chair in the nurse's office with an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. He'd pushed himself a little too hard at recess and had to be rushed to the infirmary for oxygen. His face had a sour look on it as he hated to be stuck in here instead of out with his friends. His skin had a much brighter blue look to it than normal, which he found a bit fun to look at in the mirror. He knew of course that it meant that his body was oxygen starved, but he couldn't help but be interested. He always found it funny that he looked so cold, pale and white and blue, yet he had power over fire.
Arden grumbled as the nurse wrapped a bandage around her right wrist and over her palm. She was running down the hall and started to descend the stairs when she slipped on a scrap of paper and took quite the tumble, spraining her wrist. Arden winced as the bandage touched the heavily bruised wrist. The Nurse gave Arden some precautionary measures, telling her not to use her wrist for anything until it was healed. "Yeah, Yeah, I got it.." she mumbled, holding her wrist in her left hand.
Noticing a girl with fiery red hair getting her wrist bandaged, Bobby decided to introduce himself and try to strike up a conversation. He took a deep breath then pulled the oxygen mask away from his face. "Hi there, that looks bad. What'd you do to hurt your wrist like that? Where're my manners, my name's Bobby, what's yours?" Placing the mask back over his face he waited for a response.
Upon hearing someone speak, Arden turned around and saw a slightly blue man standing before her. His abilities must have something to do with water or ice.. she thought. “I-Uh..” she started, trying to sound tough, “I slipped on a piece of paper and fell down some stairs..” she mumbled, obviously embarrassed. “Anyways, I’m Arden. It’s nice to meet you!” She said, smiling. “What are you here for?” Asked Arden.
Pulling the mask away from his face, Bobby gave a beaming smile. "I pushed a bit too much on lunch break and I needed oxygen. I literally turned blue!" He motioned enthusiastically with his arm on the last sentence, then dropped his arm and placed the mask back on his face after a stern bark from the nurse.
"I can tell that!" said Arden with a little chuckle. "Are you alright now?" she asked, concerned. Arden used her free hand to brush a strand of hair from her eyes, and shifted her weight onto her left leg. She continued to hold her wrist gently in her hand, although the painkillers were slowly starting to kick in.
Shooting her a thumbs up, he nodded his head but left his mask on for a moment longer since the nurse was watching him. When she left to check on another student he pulled the mask from his face to talk to Arden. "Believe it or not, I'm much better than I was. I was a bit scared I was going to pass out and wake up in the hospital. I'm so glad I didn't, I hate going to the hospital. So, I've never seen you in any of my classes, what grade are you in? What's your homeroom? Mine's Ignis." He quickly placed the mask back over his face to take some deep breaths as the nurse came back and gave him the evil eye.
"I'm really glad you're alright!" Arden said, fidgeting slightly with the bandages on her wrists. "I'm a junior." she started, then paused. "You're in Ignis?" she asked, shocked. "It's just..I've never seen you in class?" Arden was very unobservant, so that could have been why she had never seen him.
Chuckling silently, he nodded to her exclamation about his Ignis homeroom. His eyes squinted as he racked his brain for memories of seeing Arden in class, but he couldn't for the life of him remember seeing her before. He shrugged his shoulders in a motion to say 'I have no clue why we've never seen each other before.'
"I'm not the most observant person, so that could be why.." Arden said, shrugging. Arden's gaze danced around the room as she looked around. Sure Arden was here a lot, but she had never actually looked around. The room smelled distinctly of hand sanitizer and made her nose wrinkle in slight disgust.
Noticing the disgusted nose wrinkle, he smiled a bit. He was used to the smell of the infirmary, it really was nothing compared to being in a hospital. He took a deep breath, glanced around to make sure the nurse wasn't in the room, then pulled the mask off his face. "I'm also not in class all that often. I get stuck in the infirmary and hospital a lot, so that may be why. If you think this stinks, you should try sitting in a hospital room for a week." He grinned good-naturedly and placed the mask on his face again to wait for a reply.
Arden nodded. "It's not the same, but I can sort of relate to being stuck in a hospital room a lot.," she said. "My parents pushed me to be the best when I lived at home. They pushed me too hard and I got sick with stress and sometimes got physically injured," she admitted. "The ER was like my second home for a while!" chuckled Arden.
The nurse finally deemed it okay for Bobby to stop the oxygen and he grinned as soon as the mask and tank were taken away. "I've been the opposite, my home seems like the second home for me. My parents are so worried and overprotective that they take me to the ER for the smallest reasons. They push me to be confident but freak out if I do anything that could possibly hurt me. I understand their worry, I had a twin sister with the same problem as me, but she died at only a few hours old." His smile fell and he looked sad for a moment, glancing up at Arden. "I'm sorry for what your parents pushed you to, that really sucks. But they don't do it anymore, right?" A small smile spread as he tried to sound cheerful.
"I'm so sorry.." said Arden. She had no idea what it felt like to lose a sibling. "But yes, they stopped," she said, giving a small smile in hopes to lighten the mood. "I am a little glad that they pushed me to do my best because now I have greater control over my abilities!" she exclaimed.
Nodding vigorously, Bobby smiled gently. "True, true, I'm sure they meant well, they just didn't realize how much they were hurting you. You and I should practice together sometime, I'd like to see what you can do." He stood and stretched lightly, coughing a bit, but stifling it quickly when the nurse glanced his way. "Has the nurse given you the okay to leave, yet? I don't know about you, but I'm starving!"
"We should definitely practice together sometime!" she replied excitedly. "I'm sure it's fine for me to leave," said Arden, quickly glancing over at the nurse, then quickly returning her gaze to Bobby. "Do you want to go to the cafeteria or something?" she asked.
"The cafeteria sounds fine, we can't leave just yet since schools not over. Shall we then?" He stood and held out a hand to help her up from her seat, smiling the whole time. Holding the door open for her, a gave a theatrical bow and sweeping gesture, then fell in step next to Arden. "So, you're in Ignis, but what exactly is your power? I have pyrokinesis, but I love to heat the flames to white and blue."
