Neeve seems omniscient so I think she does.
And she has a point. When you're looking for something, you'll probably find a lot of things you weren't even looking for.

I'm not sure about them calling the cops but I do know that I get a bad vibe from Neeve. I think she knew they'd go in her room which is why I don't think she left anything out in the open that was of importance. I agree with Eleni that Neeve has a point with her comment we usually get more than we bargain for when we search things out.
