Great idea Brenda. I just, this very minute, finished Frog Music I loved it, gave it 5 stars. The amount of research & thought she put into this novel is astonishing. And her character & scenery felt so real and alive. Absolutely brilliant writer.
I was planning on reading Benediction next, but changed my mind. So I'm going to read next Rotten Gods and then Mona. I think that's pretty much all I can fit in this month :)
I've just this minute finished it Mish. Breathtaking! I'll be thinking about it for awhile before I can do my review. A stunning second novel..

I've just started on Rachel Amphlett's Before Nightfall. Another up and coming Aussie author. The suspense starts from the very first page
I'm having a really good reading month. I've already read The Monk, Landline, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and The Forgotten Rebels of Eureka. Currently reading In Cold Blood, The Ways of the World and slowly working through Middlemarch.I'm not sure what is next, possibly The Year of Reading Dangerously: How Fifty Great Books Saved My Life, The Paying Guests, & Sons or maybe Galveston
Great thread, Brenda. I have a feeling my TBR is going to increase now :)So far for this month I've read : Losing Kate by Kylie Kaden and The Never List by Koethi Zan
Currently reading : Mallee Sky by Kerry McGinnis which I hope to finish in the the next day or so.

Peter wrote: "I'm reading 'Gone Girl' at the moment. Not totally impressed. So I'll read a Jo Nesbo book next."
Gone Girl didn't do anything for me either Peter, and I have The Snowman by Jo Nesbø on my TBR. But I haven't read any of his yet:)

I have read a couple of Jo Nesbo books and enjoyed them I think if you enjoyed the Dragon Tattoo books you will enjoy Nesbo's books.
I have gone girl on my iPad waiting to read.

I couldn't read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and didn't finish John, so that's not a good recommendation...lol ;)

I think Dragon Tattoo is a love or hate kind of book. Nesbo is not as graphic, but a similar style and setting. His prose is probably better than that of Larsson, but given they are translated from another language some of that falls on the translator. I enjoyed Headhunters by Jo Nesbo.
@John you are probably right.. I have heard it said that the English translation (by Reg Bartlett) of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo does not do the Swedish version justice. Jo Nesbø is translated by Don Bartlett who did a wonderful job of translating the Karl Ove Knausgård novels (definitely not thrillers though!) fom Norweigan. Not that I can read Norweigan, they just read really well in English! So I think I will definitely give a Nesbø thriller a go next.
I did too. I read an advance copy when I had the shop and found it a breath of fresh air. So many crime books (James Patterson) are written to a formula these days.
This brings to mind another book I read translated from German. It's YA, but a great thriller. The Strawberry Picker
Highly recommended.

Hi Sharon,
You absolutely should, he's one of my favourite crime authors and Banks is an excellent character. The series is set in the Yorkshire Dales and Robinson does a fantastic job of capturing the mood of the place, very similar to how Mankell captures the vastness of Ystad.

Hi Brenda,
It is very good. I've been going back through some of my favourite English authors to read their first novels and compare them to later ones, always an interesting experience. I have to say that Elizabeth George's A Great Deliverance is one of the best.
Thanks Alex, A Great Deliverance does sound good! It has some great reviews....too many books, too little time!!
