Hey Aspanna. Your team only needs to read one book of the genre, and with the 10% rule your Yates book would count for Mystery :)
Thanks! I probably expressed myself poorly there :) I got the part about the genre. I just couldn't find another viable option, for me, to read with a Y in it (the A-Z challenge for Authors and books cut my options short) :P So, me saying its a mystery writer was to point out that the others might not need to read the genre. Sorry if I wasn't clear :)
Hi Aspanna great to see you here. Good thinking about searching for the difficult letters. It would be wonderful if you started on one of those. I'm waiting to hear from our other teammates and co-captain before making a plan. With your book we have at least A genre book and a difficult letter covered.
Hi Kathy nice to see you here. Is everything clear for this challenge? Do you have an idea what you are going to read this week?
I don't have any books with a letter "y" However, I have books for all the other letters in the word Mystery. Just waiting for the other team members to see which letters they are going to take.
We are going to spell out MYSTERY this week. Aspanna is going to read for at least one Y and probably also the second one. Her book also covers the genre. You can take one of the other letters. Post here what you are going to read and when you finish also post this and make sure you place the book on your wheel-a-thon shelve. You can also post what you thought of the book. I'm always looking for new books to read, so recommendations are always welcome.
I can cover M-started My Promised Land: The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel this morning.I do not have any obvious Ys on my shelves either, but if needed I can certainly wander over to the library and pick something.
The other letters (S, T, E, and R), I have books currently planned for this week which will qualify.
I'm currently reading/listening
Rock Chick Regret. That will take care of the "R". For the first Mystery we have left T and E.
I am currently reading The Blue Book which has a main character named Elizabeth. I could finish it today, but I will put it aside for a few hours and finish it tomorrow.Books need to be marked as "read" on (or after) July 13th using GoodReads time zone/clock, right?
I have made a spreadsheet where I can track of what you have read you can find it here: spreadsheet.
"Books need to be marked as "read" on (or after) July 13th using GoodReads time zone/clock, right?"
Yes I think so, but let me check that out for you. I'll reserve the E for you as well.
I've made a Reading Plan, this can still change when we have read more books and start to spell out mystery again for more points. Here you can see which letter still needs to be read.
I am reading Spin a Wicked Web. For the letter S? :) I also am finishing reading The Waves. Would this work for the T? I also am reading Tik-Tok of Oz. Tik-Tok has 52,828 words. I don't know if the words add up in this book to the right number. If someone is able to check that out for me, I could also finish it for "T". I am also reading Tarka the Otter. Even though you might think it is a children's book it isn't really.
Sorry Ive been out all day. I am looking forward to this and Mystery is a fav of mine so it will be easy for me to read this genre.Ill take the letter "T" I'll read A Touch of Dead by Charlaine Harris It is listed in the mystery lists so it will fall into the genre easily
I'm also reading another mystery currently It Only Takes a Moment by Mary Jane Clarke this would be good for an "M" or "E" for the main character is Eliza Blake
I've finished Rock Chick Regret today. First letter is taken care of.I've started Rock Chick Revolution for an R.
Melissa (ladybug) wrote: "I am reading Spin a Wicked Web. For the letter S? :) I also am finishing reading The Waves. Would this work for the T? I also am reading Tik-Tok of Oz. ..."I'm checking with the Mods about word count for Tik-Tok.
I've put you other books in the spreadsheet. And I'll update the Reading Plan with your books.
I can take care of at least one of the second set of Y's. I'll start Down London Road by Samantha Young today. I have more of her books on my to be read shelve. If I finish the first one on time I might be able to finish the second one as well.
I finished The Blue Book by A.L. Kennedy this morning. It should work for letter T for the title, and it is currently slated in the E slot for MC Elizabeth.
The other characters don't work for this week's genre.
I also finished The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd this morning. It will also work for T for the title, S for the author's name (and the main character, Sarah).
I was not planning on using this one for this challenge, but I finished it and if it is a help to the team, I want to make sure I mention it.
I finished The Waves by Virginia Woolf today. It could work for "T" title, "S" & "R" for main characters (Susan and Rhoda).

Hi Melissa can you mark the book as read and place it on your wheel a thon shelve?
Reading through the Rules thread, I see we are not limited to Main Characters. Mary Grimke is Sarah's mother in Invention of Wings, and certainly plays a larger role than Goldie the Goldfish. So, if it works better for the team, this book could also go into the M slot.MYSTERY is 7 letters long, how many times are we aiming to spell it? I know I read between 5 and 7 books a week and am trying to make sure I pick books which fit in some way. What are other people's goals?
Thanks for mentioning about the character Kate, I have updated the spreadsheet accordingly. I'm trying to complete MYSTERY first. Later when we have read more books they can be shuffeled around for the best fit. I read about 2-3 books per week, depending on how busy I am at work/home.
I'd like to have some books that fit for the Y, which is a difficult letter to find and it's in mystery twice. We have to complete the word before extra letters and/or words count for points.
What did you think of Ivention of Wings, I'm thinking about reading it.
Imke, I am feeling pretty confident I will have a Y after all. I am 100 pages or so into My Promised Land and there have been several people with Y names. Yitzhak Tabenkin has been mentioned many times. And as this is a book about Israel, I am sure Yasser Arafat will be making an appearance. :)I thought The Invention of Wings was OK. There was a large focus on the brutality of slave punishments throughout the book which made much of the bigger story harder for me to connect (it's hard to watch the blooming abolition movement and woman's suffrage movement when you are flinching at yet another reference to that whipping or those scars). It did spark an interest in seeking out more information about the Grimke sisters and their work, though.

Hi Melissa c..."
hi. sorry, I forgot about shelf. am fixing <○○> :)
I've completed reading The Spymistress7/13/14
------------
The next book I'm reading is for the letter (E) The Encyclopedia of Me
Do we have a tally of how many points we have so far? How many times can we read for the word Mystery?
I don't have a tally yet. I'll post points when the first week is done and we have the points of the other teams.
