Rangers Apprentice Burning Bridge By: John Flanagan
After the eventful times Will has been through, Gillian took him and Horace under his wing. They set out in the woods, only finding more and more about Morgaraths plans along their journey. They found the bridge Morgarath had built to win the war. Horace, Evelnyn, and Will stopped his plans. The symbols that stood out the most were the rangers cloaks, and their ranger leaf necklaces. These were some of the main things that led people to know they were rangers. The cloaks they wore blended into their surroundings to help them as they moved, and could also be used as a blanket at times. The oak leaf resembled what level of ranger you were by the color (bronze, silver, then gold.). But some people see a ranger as a ranger. For example, the Scandinavians. When they saw the bronze oak leaf necklace, they said apprentice or not, he is still a ranger. But when a royal family sees the ranger’s cloak, they wouldn’t fear them, and they felt safe. Evelyn ran straight towards them when she was in danger in the book. These symbols were shown so often, and recognized through the whole book. Or in the case of the cloak, even hidden. Morgarath, mortal enemy of Hult and of the Kingdom had plans to rule and destroy them all. He had sent people out to lie about his plans, and made everyone believe, even Halt and Will. They thought they had it all figured out, until Evenlyn showed up, and they heard about Morgaraths bridge, and his surprise attack on the army. They had to stop him, and the fast progress he was making. They burned the bridge, now they had to tell the army, but by the time they reached camp, it would be too late. They had to trust someone to ride there fast enough, praying they would get the message on time. After the bridge was burned, and Will was captured, the army had to trust one another, and put trust into the rangers as well. They thought they had lost and they had no faith until they realized the rangers were the ones dressed in the enemy's gear, trying to confuse the Morgarath. They also had to put trust in Horace, to know that he could kill Morgarath, and he did. But no matter how much trust Will put into Halt, he wasn't able to save him. Trust is one of the main things, as you can see in the conflict. One of the parts that really stuck out was when he and Evenlyn were burning the bridge, Evenlyn had to stay low, and trust that Will would keep her safe, and he did. I really enjoyed Ranger's Apprentice book two: Burning Bridge, although it was very slow at the beginning. Yes many things happened, but not quickly, and there weren't too many events that kept you on your toes. It had very good conflict to it, and a very amazing plot. The plot twist at the beginning definitely left me shocked and wondering why that happened! I loved the detail put into the characters, especially Evenlyn, and her secrets. Overall, I really loved the book, especially all the details.
