In the "Additional Group Reads" folder, group members can set up discussion threads for group reads or buddy reads related to Ancient Greece and Rome. Books can be works from the period, works providing historical or cultural background, or works of fiction, poetry, or non-fiction inspired by Ancient Greece and/or Rome. Members are welcome to set up their own discussion topics, or to contact a moderator who can set up a discussion topic for them.

As new optional group reads begin, we can post their start date and links here. I just posted a folder titled "Optional Read: The Iliad" -- it's for an optional group read starting December 16, 2017. This read doesn't have a schedule. Instead, members can read and post at their own pace. Each of the 24 books in The Iliad has its own thread. The thread for Book 1 is located here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and the entire folder is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Richard Derus (expendablemudge) Hi Kris! Your teaching talents are very much on display in this beautifully organized group.

I had an idea. I possess the Robert Fitzgerald and Stanley Lombardo translations of The Odyssey. Would a sort-of comparative read of one in January and the other in February make sense and be appealing to anyone?

I love that idea, Richard, and I have both translations, so count me in! Is anyone else interested?

I will set up a folder for the comparative read with discussion threads soon.

I have the Fitzgerald but not the Lombardo. I might be able to join in the Fitzgerald in January depending on how many books we read per week.
