Okay, we are through the first 100 pages. How are you feeling about Amor Towles's writing? Are you connecting with Count Rostov's character? How has house arrest been affecting him thus far?

I really like Towles writing and I feel Rostov is making the best of the situation. According to the court notes in the beginning, he was already living in the Metropol before he was sentenced there believe? Correct me if I’m wrong. I am enjoying the novel but am finding myself a little hazy on political details.

I agree! I like Towles writing. I love that he is throwing in a lot of humor, and Rostov seems to be very quick witted which I like. I love the relationship that Rostov established with the little girl, I am blanking on her name right now. I thought their relationship seemed so sweet, and they really learned from one another. You're right. He was living in the hotel before, but in a more grand room. Am I wrong or did Towles basically tell us what is going to happen to the Count at the end of Book one? Or did I just make that up. Also, I agree about the political details. I'm finding myself googling a lot about that time period in Russia. Am I right in thinking that Nicholas II the last Tsar of Russia has already been kidnapped....but has he been killed yet?? At first I thought that Rostov had been placed under house arrest because of his poem, but I'm thinking that it was just because he is aristocracy.
