Grey clouds covered the sky,the sun's heat dampened by the strong cold winds, trees swaying side to side following mother nature's rhythm. Valentina strode up to the arena, head held high as she approached the standing guards, handing over her pass without a glance. The doors now opened she stepped in taking a deep breath surveying her surroundings, the arena was constantly changing with the help of master metal benders and of course other benders. Today it had been filled with sand and the seats created out of cement, wooden arches at the top and a clock being in the center. She walked to the sides of the arena and selected her weapons, grabbing some iron, she bent it into rings shaping her fingers she played with it for a while and created a seat out of sand as she waited. Valentina titled her head in curiosity wondering if Corra had decided to come after all.
Corra had gone through the same procedures as Valentina and had taken the time to scrounge for any kind of attire that could help her in the arena rather than wearing a fancy dress. Today, she wore her hair in a high ponytail and a simple wear of brown trousers, and a bag white shirt. Once handing the guards her certificate, signed by her English professor, she made her way towards the armory, grabbed a simple foot long knife, and saw Valentina shortly enough in the arena. Her friend was sitting on a chair made of. . . sand? It always amazed the duchess when people could use their Ability and make practical things. Running up to Valentina, Corra grinned and waved. "Hello! So how did you want do this? Swat my bottom with that weapon of yours and correct me at every little thing?" She teased.
To pass the time,Valentina weaved sand particles through her sleek fingers creating the image of a gold river pouring to life. At the sound of doors opening she lifted her head and smiled at the sight of Corra, rising to her feet she let her hand drop to the side, the chair of sand collapsing and blending back into the ground. She decided to come after all, taking strides toward Corra, she observed her choices in weaponry and smirked. “ Ahh but what would be the fun in that?” She smiled as she summon Corra’s dagger and placed it back onto the table. “ I was thinking we would just use our abilities, no need for weaponry I detest having to clean out wounds.” She said her face displaying a dramatized face of disgust. Valentina strode into the center of the arena and smiled waiting for Corra to follow. “ I’m sure you know how to have a regular spar correct?” She summoned a small sand tornado within her palm.
"I'm sure you'd be the only one who would have plenty of fun in that case," Corra said with a chuckle, knowing full well who was the better of the two when it came down to fighting. At Valentina's proposal of using their abilities instead, the duchess couldn't help but quirk an eyebrow at this. "Oh? In that case, I'll be all for the challenge. And I heartily agree. We won't have such a big Mess when we're done. At least, I should hope not," she said, winking. While Corra would never admit that she had the most astounding abilities ever, being able to shapeshift and have a frosting ability had trained her well during her school years. Although, she had to admit. Not once had her instructors told her she'd have to use it in a fight. They had explained it more so like a delicate art that she too must try and pass down to her children. "You lost me when you said spar. I'm not familiar with any fighting terms so I'm afraid you'll just to talk to me as though I'm an infant."
A laugh escaped her lips,"I promise i'll be incredibly gentle." Valentina was incapable of hurting someone on purpose especially within school grounds, the professor had taken it upon themselves to remind her that this was not the competition for the crown rather a form in which she could further progress in controlling her powers. " Having to pick out the iron in the blood is a very tedious and worthless task, when a mess is made." She smiled jokingly, exaggerating the mini battles often fought in the arena. " A spar is an aspect of training, the objective isn't necessarily to land heavy blows rather to explore what short rapid movements can do for you and using your abilities to your advantage." Valentina summoned sand and suspended them in the air, she threw a rapid set of punches in the air, the sand following her every move when reaching the end of the jab it was formed into a compacted square creating a visible impact. " Don't worry I won't do that when we spare,it's just an example." She relaxed her shoulders and tilted her head," Now you try."
"Hm. I can't tell if you're being serious or not," Corra replied, raising an eyebrow. "Now that was definitely reassuring. No reason for me to be worried at all." And the duchess's tone was very much thick with sarcasm. She knew that her friend may not have any intention of causing damage to her, but she had to remain vigilant from here on out. As Valentina spoke about having short, and rapid movements with a weapon, Corra quickly filed the information away in her head and motioned for her to go on. When she had finished talking and wanted Corra to demonstrate, a smile wavered on her lips. "Hm. So precise and swift punches, correct?" She asked, slipping her knife in it's sheath before showing Valentina a series of punches. It wasn't perfect, and her position was rather sloppy, but Corra had no doubt that her friend would correct that shortly
The corners of her mouth quirked into a smile, amused with Corra's sarcasm. Valentina nodded in agreement and watched as Corra delivered sloppy punches into the air," Hold on, wait just a second." She walked to the sides of the arena, disappearing for a second before poking her head out, carrying a make-shift punching bag in her arms. Setting it on the ground she took off one her rings and got to work creating a chain and a hook, lifting the punching bag up she clipped it and motioned Corra to come." Okay now that this is up we can focus on your stance. If you’re a righty, your left shoulder should always facing the punching bag and vice verse." Valentina parted Corra's legs with her foot until they were shoulder-width apart. " Okay so have your knees slightly bent, left foot turned to point toward the punching bag. Make loose fists, and hold your right hand by your chin, left hand down in front of your face. Chin down, eyes up." As she instructed Corra with her words she also guided her body placing everything where it needed to be.
