August 2014 Newsletter

WANTED: Featured Writing From a Struggling Writers Member!

This August, we are looking for unfound, polished pieces of writing to go into our newsletter! Have a poem, short story, or preview chapter of a book you want seen in front of thousands? Then all you have to do is give your name, the title of the piece, and the number of words in the body of your work, and send it to us! Remember, for short stories and chapter previews, we do not except long bodies that are over 1500 words, and we do not accept poems that are over 300 words. Reply back to this message if you want your writing viewed (that means no PUBLISHED works are excepted) and the earliest person who sends in first might just get famous (on the site...hehe)!

WANTED: Q&A Authors!

In addition, we also need authors who would gladly like their books questioned on for our newsletter. Never heard of our Q&A segments? Then check out our July Newsletter, which just got released!: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

As an author, it is your duty to answer ALL questions. Also, when you answer these questions, please do the courtesy of keeping the questionnaire format by sending in the question WITH the answers, chronologically. And remember, only the early bird can get the worm!

*What was your inspiration for [Insert Story Title Here]?

*Why do you think people will enjoy [Insert Story Title Here]?

*What tips do you have for authors that are new to the publishing process?

*Did you self-publish your story, or was it professionally published?

*What is some advice that you have for young, aspiring writers?

*Did you ever picture yourself as a published author?

*Was writing always your passion, or did you ever have a different career in mind?

*What author/story do you look up to and use for ideas/inspiration?

*What do you find to be the most difficult part of the writing process?

*Can we expect some new works from you in the future?

COMING SOON ANNOUNCEMENTS

This summer we're going to refine the group a little bit by channeling in more interesting segments. Don't think we've forgotten about your New Year's requests! It's the only thing that's been hagging us right now, and when the temperatures here simmer down, we'll finally screw our additions into place. Here's a preview of the titles of our new-to-date folders/topics:

-Read-and-Feed A thon!

-Making Author Connections

-Struggling Writers Book Awards

- Ask Us: Your Writing Penpals

But you have to tune in to reap the rewards! (Ssssh!)
Speaking of which, we are launching the topic for our new advice column, "Ask Us.." right now!

Calling ALL writing problems!

That’s right; we want to hear all your writing problems big and small! You can message your questions to Struggling Writer head moderator Ingrid with the subject line “SW Questions” and specify if you don’t mind your name being mentioned, otherwise you will remain anonymous. Your questions WILL be answered; and we will either feature your question with the answer as the writing tip of the month, AND over in the Writer’s Journal folder for all to see! So please, send in your questions!

July Newsletter: Published!

Sorry for our late submission, but our July newsletter has finally been released! Don't forget to read it! And also don't forget to take our monthly quiz (which you numbchucks hardly read anyways, which is why now is a good reason to do so).

Monthly August Writing Contest:

This is kind of a new dilemma for us, but as you can see, we judges are STUCK on glue with creative ideas to promote for our contests! The months have been flying, and as they chip away so do our thinking caps. So, we're sincerely asking that you be the BRAINS in this. What would YOU want as the prompt for our contest? As long as it's PG, and able to be simplified into words, we'll consider and process your ideas. Just remember that not all ideas will be accepted, but for a greater chance, please make them original and spontaneous! (Yes, there will be no "Back to School" theme). Submit your idea back to us in a reply to this message!(We'll handle guidelines and word counts, so no need).
