You made it! Are you glad you read this book? Is there anything that you think you'll be thinking about long after you put it down? Any surprises along the way? Let's chat about our final feelings and thoughts!

Lisa Piazza (brandnewbooksmell) | 6 comments I loved this book!! I bonded with the characters from the beginning and enjoyed the entire story. I rated it 5 stars because it was a little bit of everything I love in a story. Not perfect - but a little bit of everything to make it perfect for me. Thanks for a great pick Krista!

Robyn (driftlessreader) | 28 comments I could read and reread the last two chapters over and over again.....

I ended up listening to the last few chapters on audiobook on my drive back to VA from NY. I think I'm going to reread them in the physical book though. What an amazing book. Every once in a while I would stop and reread a sentence or phrase because a description or phrase would catch my breath in it's uniqueness (is that a word) and beauty. Such a wonderful read.

I just loved all the characters and thought they were remarkably quirky and well developed! Even most of the side characters as seen through Reuben's memory were so full of life - Jape, Roxanna, the FBI guy whose name escapes me right now, the doctor, etc.

When they were at the red house at the end and Davy came with Sarah I so wanted him to turn himself in, even though I knew it wouldn't happen. I just didn't want him to be gone from their lives! Ugh.

I thought I would be a bit more emotional reading this book than I was. I still count it among one of the best I've read in ages even though it didn't make me cry!

I know we are right up at the end of the month here, but I hope to hear from a few more of you what you thought of this book!

Happy New Year!!

Cassie | 37 comments I am glad I read it. I didn't cry but I did get a little teary-eyed at the end. I knew the Dad was going to die (my prediction was wrong) but that sorrow was eased with the presence of Roxanna.
I agree that this book is beautifully written. It's a word-lovers dream. Oh the poetry too - it's the kind I can read *and* understand!
I think the part that will stay with me is the Dad. When he told Reuben he would trade places with him: any parent can relate to that. But then at the end being able to do actually do so....such a beautiful picture of our Father's love and sacrifice for us. I dont think this was a "Christian" published book but it was certainly full of faith: that deep, quiet and resounding faith the reminds me of Charles Wesley and Billy Graham.

On a side-note, I am seriously considering gifting a copy to my FIL for his next birthday.
