OK, this is our sci-fi selection for the year. But we chose one that's been SUPER popular since it came out. And Spielberg is directing the movie that will open on March 30th. So read it for book club and you'll be ready for the movie. Just, you know, be prepared for the movie to not be as good as the book...they never are.

It looks like the going price for this ebook on all the services is $10. The audio book is going for $15. But I'm sure Christine has a real book copy in the library.

OK, so I have recently discovered that this book belongs to a sub-genre called LitRPG. It's more accessible than many of the books in that genre. Here's a link that defines the genre:

https://litrpgreads.com/what-is-litrpg

So if I were to look backwards at movies we are all familiar with that would fit this genre, I list:

Tron (and sequel)
The Last Starfighter
Pixels (hey, I didn't say they'd all be GOOD movies)
maaaybe I'd include War Games, but probably not

Here's a list of "similar" books:

GREAT discussion! This was such a fun book. We had one new person in the library with us and one new person on the phone. We almost wrangled one other new person but he ended up having a meeting he couldn't reschedule.

I made jello keys (with a cookie cutter) to represent the keys from the book - orange for the brass key, lime for the jade key and clear for the crystal key. They fell apart in transport but it was the thought, right?

Christine brought Fritos since Wade talked about eating corn chips so often. John brought a pie because we forgot about Pi day yesterday.

We watched the movie trailer (I think it was two trailers) and I'm super excited about seeing the movie!!!

Finally, my favorite Atari game was Megamania.
