So, this is totally random, but is anyone else reading Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by any chance? :D

I wasn't planning on it. What's your impression?

Well, according to the book these people are as incompetent as we thought they were, so no surprise there.

I'm around 40% in and I've laughed a lot, but it has also made me wonder if this is going to be the new standard for the world going forward. The fact that this man won a presidency (with or without outside help) has made so many people realize (or assume) they should run for office. For me, that is the scariest part of this man being president.

I don't know how much of the book is true or not, but even if only 20% of it turns out to be true, this man is dangerous (only because of how stupid he is).

The book reads like a political thriller/comedy (if that were a thing). At least it is entertaining...

I just read the Fusion GPS transcript. It doesn't really contain anything we didn't know already, or anything that hasn't already been know before the election, sorry to say. All stuff that Trumpsters either knew already and/or chose to ignore/not to believe. So, the same cognitive dissonance will still apply.

But it might have topped off my tank when it comes to how much Trump nonsense I can handle for the next few weeks.

I'm a few chapters in. I can see why mainstream journalists are reacting the way they are, but Wolff definitely has an eye for character (I never felt sympathy for Sean Spicer before!). So far, it's consistent with the various news reports I've been wincing through over the last year.

Its main importance, which I saw when I read the excerpt last week, is that it bundles all of what is really already known into a coherent and engaging narrative. Because of that, I don't think its potential influence should be underestimated.

I don't NEED a book to tell me that the Trumps are as incompetent, except for Baron, as they appear to be. The reason I am not including Baron in that is that as a kid, he can't be incompetent at being a kid.

What it says to me is, opera libretto. I see Bannon being sung by a bass. Donald is a countertenor; the chorus of Congressmen are of course baritones. Melania a soprano, Nancy Pelosi an alto.

No worse an idea for an opera than the business relationship between Justices Ginsburg and Scalia... .
