Welcome to UNO 2018!

It looks like we have a really diverse team from all over the world, which will be awesome. Lots of new books to see!

Let's start off by getting to know each other a little.

1. Where are you from?
2. Have you played UNO before? What were your teams?
3. Favourite and least favourite book that you read in 2017?
4. What animal do you admire the most?

I'll go first!

I'm Ashley and I live in Australia.

This will be my forth UNO challenge. My past teams were Fraggle Rock, Doctor Who and Becky Bloomwood.

My favourite book that I read in 2017 was Ready Player One and least favourite was (it's hard to choose just one) Forbidden.

I love dogs! So friendly and the unconditional love is something that a lot of humans could learn!

3. Series I am obsessed with cinder, stand alone would be The fault in our stars. Book I did not like was The perks of being a wallflower.
4. Dogs!!! My dog spoils me and loves me as much as I love him!

3) My favourite book I read last year was "Gone With The Wind", and my least favourite was probably "The Great Gatsby".
4) My favourite (and most admired) animal is a lion! I love how fierce, loyal, and beautiful they are :')

I'm Kathleen from the Philippines. This is my fourth UNO and I forgot my first 2 teams but I was with Ashley in BLoomwood last year. Right Ash? I'm not sure if I'm confusing it with another team challenge!

I don't want to pick for 2017 favorite book because I had a lot from last year. I pick Anna and the French Kiss for least favorite.

I'd love to say eagle but dogs are cozier so dogs it is!

I was planning on reading Beartown after I’m done with my current book. That would satisfy one of the skip cards! Kira and Peter are two of the characters in the story.

You get to pick your own card! At the start of each month we have lots of cards to choose from so there is plenty of choice (we have to read a little more specific towards the end of the month or for any mini challenges).

Readers often prefer to nominate a card that they are reading for ie. "I'll be reading The Handmaid's Tale for 3 in Hand One (Title starts with H)"

Does this make sense?

That's right!

You'll shelf it on your UNO shelf. You'll then either post it into our extra team tracking spreadsheet or post it in this thread. One of the captains will then post it into the official spreadsheet and it will do its magic and allocate points!

Yes you'll then pick another card to read for. You can complete another card in Hand 1 if there is one available that you can read for. Otherwise you could pick something from Hand 2 or Hand 3 etc.

As we get extra points for completing a hand it's best to try to fill the lower one's first before going for Hand 12 etc.

@Ashley: Haha okay editing now... We were teammates in one of the teams you mentioned! Man, Wobble was fun and hard. Did you sign up for Cutthroat?

I'll be reading for my first UNO book. I'll probably finish the series now so that will help us stock up on the 7s and SKIPs.

I just realized I'd probably read all VE Schwab books for UNO. Her books Can fit right into every card.

Hi everyone, I am in Christchurch, New Zealand. Recently moved here from Australia.

I have not played UNO before, looking forward to my first time playing.

My favourite book for 2017 was My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry and least favourite The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

As an animal lover, I find it hard to select one animal I admire.... Maybe echidnas, one of the native species of my homeland, which is pretty cute and peacefully plods along doing it's own thing (as someone with anxiety this is a trait I very much admire).

@ Jessica. I love echidnas! Such a good choice :D

@ Kathleen. Haha yeah I signed up for cut throat. Not as captain though. Still coming out of my year book slump! Are you in it?

3. My favorite book of 2017 would probably be Three Dark Crowns, followed closely by Court of Wings and Ruin, and my least favorite book I read in 2017 was a toss up between When Dimple Met Rishi or There's Someone Inside Your House.
4. My favorite animal is the cheetah, they are just so graceful and beautiful.

Lol at how can they say rules weren't clear. It was stated in the Introduction that it was going be cutthroat and every and anything can happen. Looking forward to TT though!

I finally put the Deal or No Deal challenge to rest. It had been 2 years. That's about 1 year and 11 months too long to have to deal with that Banker.

I admire the moderators of every GR book club how much dedication and time you alot <3 It amazes me how you keep track of us!

I’m currently reading Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones, and plan to finish it up and start the Uno challenge with my ARC of the next book, Shadowsong so I can try to at least START it before it’s released. For our cards in hand one, I could either use this for a 3 (character named Hans), 7 (main character/family surname is Vogler), or Skip (character named Kathe). I don’t really understand the draw two—does it mean we use the same book for two of the other cards? Or that we use the same book for two cards, one is the draw two card and one other card in the hand?
