Mikayla Serrano (thebookinstruments) | 5 comments I was wondering, do you have to be an experienced blogger to go to BEA? A certain amount of followers? I want to go to both, but don't have a ton of followers.

Thank You!

Kristyn Kricket | 29 comments To obtain a free pass, I believe you would need to have a high traffic established blog. You can attend as a blogger but the pass is fairly expensive.

The 3 day pass is $250 for bloggers. I hadn't heard of any bloggers getting in for free in the past. You have to apply as a blogger. They do ask for proof of your stats. If there's a minimum, it hasn't been published anywhere that I've seen. You also have to give 3 professional references. I applied as soon as registration opened last year and was accepted within a couple of weeks. Hope that helps. :)

What type of professional references did you use?

Miriam | 33 comments Does anyone have last year's shuttle schedule? I need to book my hotel and want to be on the shuttle rather than the subway.
Thanks!

Bonnie (A Backwards Story) (abackwardsstory) | 36 comments I don't know about now since they've made their changes, but a few years ago, the threshold was 1,000 followers. I was able to attend with a press pass with that number. I don't know if it's still true or not because I'm now also a book reviewer for a website with over 5 million members, so it's a whole different beast. But you can maybe try if you have at least that many and see!

Also, I would also be interested to hear more about the shuttle! I've been hearing that there is a subway now as well, and we've always taken the shuttle back in the past!

as to the shuttle - historically it ran until about 6pm every half hour or so depending on interest and started around 8am I want to say? I don't know if that will be effected by the construction since the last couple of conferences/conventions I've attended at Javits the construction happening to Javits has made the shuttle services weird since the space for the shuttles was closed off.

I suspect we won't know for sure what the experience will be like until much closer to the date.

And as to the question of press pass - its ridiculously stupid to get one. The qualifications changed when the showrunner changed and they decided to focus on the Bookseller end of the Industry (which they should have been to begin with since this took over for ABA's conference, but whatever I'm not playing that bitter history game again).

you lose nothing by trying for press and other than the price going up bc of "early bird" discounts, you don't lose the chance to buy a ticket if they reject your application.

Elizabeth of Silver's Reviews (silversreviews) | 94 comments Does anyone see the list of exhibitors with the booth numbers listed?

I seem to only see the 2017 year's list.

I haven't gone for three years, and that application was totally different. :) I have been accepted.

Thanks.

Exhibitor List won't be up for a while yet (I'd guess mid-late April)! They send an email about it - much of BEA planning, til mid-May, is trolling social media and pub emails and checking out places like edelweiss for some sort of idea. Sometimes the My Show planning thing they have will get the info sooner, but it's still early days.

Thank you, Lexie.

Oh good that they will send an e-mail. I have forgotten since I haven't gone for three years.

yeah usually somewhere along the lines of "Plan your Expo!" or "Exhibitor List is live! Plan your meetings!"

Some variation there of - you'll know it when it arrives (I'd find last year's but I already cleared out all of those emails months ago).

Thank you very much. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Linda (un)Conventional Bookworms (linda_unconventional_bookworms) | 43 comments I read somewhere on the BookExpo site this year that the hotel they have a block of rooms in does not do a shuttle service this year.
I haven't been to BE in NYC before, I only went to the one in Chicago two years ago, but I'll be there in May.
I don't think many bloggers I know are attending, so I would love to meet up if anyone is interested.

The shuttles don't stop at every hotel. They have several shuttle routes and they pick stops close to majority of the hotels they list on the BookExpo website. They run every 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Sometimes it's easier to hail an Uber and split the fare with friends.

Linda (un)Conventional Bookworms (linda_unconventional_bookworms) | 43 comments Thanks Nicole, then I may have chosen the wrong hotel :D That's ok, though - I'm sure I'll manage.

Bonnie (A Backwards Story) (abackwardsstory) | 36 comments We have never stayed at an "official" hotel. They have never checked if you do or not. We are still able to get on/off the shuttle. There is a station around 8th and 32nd, I think? really close to our hotel. Take a look at where the shuttle stops are this year and see if your hotel is near one of them. They'll post on the website at some point. I HAVE heard there will be fewer stops this year because of the subway!

Vicky | 42 comments Has anyone looked at the schedule yet? I thought that the early hours (late afternoon) on Wed were for ABA only but this year it looks as thought it is a full day and (quite honestly) I'm not clear if it is for ABA only or not - can anyone advise?

My pass is for all three days, so I think I’ll have the right to enter on the Wednesday as well...

Actually, the majority of BE hotels are not serviced by shuttles because they want you to take the subway. Although the shuttle schedule is not posted, the list of "subway" hotels is up. I like to see the shuttle schedule so I can pick a hotel within a few blocks of the stops.

I think they are showing last year's on the site. So you think they will be the same booth numbers?

No the booth numbers tend to switch about - the pubs tend to be in similar enough locations year to year, but their numbers do change. Plus with the changes to Javits that might involve some adjustments as well.

Elizabeth of Silver's Reviews wrote: "Thanks, Lexi. What changes have been made? "

They're expanding the Javits (they got like a Billion dollars for it) (http://www.javitscenter.com/about/exp...) - bigger Exhibit Hall floor space, huge interior ballroom, hopefully a better way to navigate between floors so you don't have to go up to go down to go up to the right floor...

there's a rendering of the final center here: https://ny.curbed.com/2017/3/2/147933...

It looks NICE. so we'll see how it works for reals.

Jennifer (madamelibrarian2) | 24 comments Does anyone know how much the Children's Author breakfast is? I cannot find the price. I registered in December and did not sign up for it. In fact, never saw the option. Hoping it is not too late and that it is not too expensive. Thanks!

If you want it with breakfast it's $60 :)

Karen Castro (yamilreads) | 4 comments Hello I want to know how to buy the tickets for the BookExpo?
Is super easy for BookCon but in the BookExpo website is just a little bit difficult to understand, for me.
Is it where it says "Register?" It ask me for tittle and company. I don't know.
It this for Media event only? I have never been to this event before, I seen videos and people talking about in YT but never attend to one before.
THANK YOU!

Linda (un)Conventional Bookworms (linda_unconventional_bookworms) | 43 comments Yes, it’s for bloggers, teachers, librarians, authors etc. I’m a blogger, so that’s how I was able to register for BookExpo.
Good luck :)

By author signings, do you mean at the individual publisher's booths or in the autographing area?

And everyone’s welcome! If I see anymore, I’ll post them here :)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
Usually they'll have SOMETHING up about some of their bigger names (the ones at Author Breakfasts or such) with the other stuff sprinkling in as we got closer to the show, but they've got it set up very differently this year in terms of the website layout (closer to how BookCon or NYCC has there's laid out - with pictures of WHO will be there, but not concrete information yet).

Its honestly still a little early to have anything close to an actionable schedule.

we should have the PW "around the booths"/"galleys to watch for" soonish though? That's usually late april/early May.

message 50: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 33 comments Also, for those wondering about the shuttle: There's only one shuttle this year and its only stop is at the Hilton Midtown.
