Reflecting on LeGuin's recent passing, I'm reminded of how much this book made an impression on me. LeGuin took a barely-mentioned name from Virgil's Aeneid and created a compelling character, adding further intrigue with Lavinia's own awareness that she is simply a figment of the poet's imagination. Brilliant.

She was an incredible writer, with an incredible imagination. Her Left Hand of Darkness was my introduction to her work. Her short stories were also incredible. And I loved her EarthSea series. A shame she passed, but she has left an wonderful legacy.I think I may revisit her works once more. It's been a while since I read her.
