I working my through Dan Brown Origin I’m about half through so do you have an action adventure author you are interested in??
I am deeply devoted to Clive Cussler and his partner author tales. I reread them many times much like I did Tolkien and Rowling!
I created a shelf for all my suspense buddy reads called available-for-buddy-reads any book from this shelf is fine for me though my favorites right now would be:
From your shelf I could imagine to read:
or
I'm open to other books (as long as it's no horror, paranormal or hard-core SF) if I can get them from my library or they don't cost more than 4 Euro.
Kenneth, how do you want to handle it?Should we:
- agree on a page/chapter # per day or week (26 chapters/437 pages - Kindle edition or 512 pages - paperback edition)
- we read at our own pace and post when we have any thought as we go
- we read the book and discuss after we finished
- or do you have another idea?
I'm pretty flexible and open to (almost) any approach.
Hi good question since this is the first time doing this I’m open. I placed my order this morning for the book so I’m hoping it ships by tomorrow so hopefully i gets it next week. So let’s keep it flexible. We can check in weekly to see where we are....

That's why I asked so I could adjust my reading pace to yours :-)
HiFinished the first chapter and oh my I think I will have remember to take my blood pressure meds in the am..,
Vietnam was an ugly mess...
Sounds interesting. I won't be able to start today (only another 30 minutes of the day left) but first thing tomorrow morning :-)
It's going slower than I thought :-( The beginning is pretty technical and full of terms and abbreviations that are nice to know but slow the reading for me very much. I hope it gets better and there'll be more action than technology :-)Within the first few pages I found some sentences I really love:
The airspeed stabilized at 420 knots, Grafton’s preferred speed for treetop flying.
They were almost scraping the paddies.
The expressions 'treetop flying' or '(almost) scraping the paddies' are so nice visual :-)
I have a linguistic quesiton for contemplated the vaulted stars. vaulted stars is it the same or similar as vaulted sky or does valted mean here something entirely different?
The last one I'm not sure if you can help - wanted ask anyway - In the first sentece the author refers to the air plane as A6-A (Intuder) but after that only as A6 - do you have an idea if the first one is the full name of the machine and later it's the common name used for this type of planes or just a plain typo?
Wow, what a rollercoster!
I think 2-3 chapters a day seam realistic for me right now.
HiHe is not the best writer I have read so the best guess is that he uses interchangeable terms all meanings the same thing...
All in all I liked my three chapters today enough I'm looking forward to continue tomorrow. I like it very much the author concentrates not only on the action, aviation, war parts but also on the personal issues and battles of Jake has to fight. For me it's still too early to say if I like his style or not - we'll see.
You are so right about the technical jargon that is used which is why I skimmed that and focus on the other stuff.Jake does seem at odds with everything now after the opening stanza but that is expected
I managed another two chapters today and I'm still not sure about this book - I reached now chapter 6 (26% of the book)Is it just me or does Razor have a crappy attitude?
I liked it Jake realised he's not really in form to fly (even if only for himself) I hope he'll act on it.
I read 66% (16 chapters) and I'm still ambivalent as well. There're parts that are fun and enjoyable to read and I like the MC mostly but there're parts I would love to chuck my Kindle against the wall and screem either because of the many technical expressions/abreviations or because of the characters/their actions.
Oops looks like my last message got lost (once again - I really start to hate my old computer).I finished the book a couple of days ago - stayed up almost all night ;-) and didn't really change my previous assessment of the book.
Since the first time it was mentioned Jake's considering a solo unplanned and unauthorised 'mission' I was wondering how the author's going to solve this one and I'm glad I was wrong on my two possible actions (either called hero and awarded for it or court-marialed but than how would the series continue?) I'm really glad he had to face the consequences and if not for the change in politics it would've been the end of his career.
I liked the development of the relationships between him and Cole as well as the one to Callie.
Somehow I'm glad he got not unscratched from the war - it made the story much more realistic and probable but my heart hurt to see how so many (young) man around him died or were severly wounded.
I really liked the scene between him and the XO (Rabbit) but am still wondering how it will continue and if it will have negative consequenses for Jake in future - since I plan to contiune the series I hope to find out sometime in the future.
I'm sure I forgot some of my original thoughts and notes but that can't be helped now. If I remember anything else I'll add it later and I'm very interested in your thoughts about the book.
Here is my review Check out Flight of the Intruder by Stephen Coonts
