Nancy (nancy_m) Add any and all suggestions for the group to read. I'll take suggestions, create a poll and open the voting to the group.

Anne Ipsen | 20 comments I favor historical novels but suggest we stick to local authors (or Beantown locations). The Boston chapter of the Womens National Book Association has a great list of local authors on their website www.wnbaboston.org/, click on the panel about book clubs on the right hand side. I have just finished reading "The School Master's Daughter" about the Boston start of the Revolution with another Goodreads group. I recommend it highly and would love to discuss it with 'locals'.

Kevin (kevinhallock) | 1 comments For Boston-themed novels, I recommend The Friends of Eddie Coyle, Mystic River, and King Philip's War. Another option is VampCon, a book by a local author (Armand Inezian) that includes Boston as part of its setting. And there's also Dawn Song by Mike Marano which I think he just released again.

Loren (lorend) | 1 comments For boston themed, I have been wanting to read Animal: The Bloody Rise and Fall of the Mob's Most Feared Assassin.
If not Boston themed, I have heard good things about The Goldfinch, or The Bone Season.

message 8: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizcovart) | 1 comments I like Dark Tide, Love in the Time of Cholera, and the Goldfinch. I also nominate Wayfaring Stranger by James Lee Burke.

message 9: by Anne (new)

Anne Ipsen | 20 comments I am reading Goldfinch now for another book club. It is quite long and I would ordinarily not finish it (though well-written) because I'm not really thrilled by the drug & Russian mob culture.
Nancy, when do you plan to stop the poll? We seem to have a long list already and perhaps we should settle on something and a date to discuss.

message 10: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancy_m) Sorry for the slacking. I am setting up the poll now. We have a fast moving group so it's going to close on Saturday, July 26th.

I'm going to add another poll for start date. We'll have a month from then.

I'd like to get to a place where we start the book of the month on the first of the month. I think we can manager this for September.
