I agree with Jolene that the Albion Trilogy is collectively my favorite. If I had to pick a single book it would be Byzantium. I enjoyed Patrick a lot as well. I guess since SRL is such a good author it is difficult to pick out just one favorite. haha
I loved the Pegragon Cycle when I was younger, but looking back I think the Albion Trilogy might just be my favourite of all.I still have a a few to read though. I really want to read the Robin Hood trilogy at some point.
To date, I've liked the Song of Albion trilogy the best of any body of Lawhead's work that I've read. But I haven't read nearly enough of his work yet to make that my final and definitive answer!
So far, it seems the Albion trilogy has the majority vote. I'll have to add it to my "to read" list.I'd also like to read the Pendragon series. C.S. Lewis referred to the the Pendragon in "That Hideous Strength"
, and it would be interesting to read Lawhead's perspective.
No one had mentioned it, but the Celtic Crusades trilogy is also good. I also enjoyed the Robin Hood trilogy.
I haven't read Patrick, but I did enjoy Byzantium as well.
I have read Talisen twice (once a long time ago) and more recently with the group. I listened to Merlin --- but I think the reader/content didn't work in the audio format for me. :-(

Having already read the Song of Albion trilogy (and since I own copies of the books to refer to), I could take part in the discussion if we do a group read of the trilogy this fall.Jolene, I liked the King Raven (Robin Hood) trilogy as well, and would rank it right up there! I'm looking forward to reading both Byzantium and the Celtic Crusades trilogy sometime.
I re-read The Paradise War a year or two ago so I'd be happy to join in discussions. With all the new books I have on my list to read I'm not sure I'd have time to re-read the other two books in the series any time soon though, much as I would love to.
Wow. I joined this group like 4 years ago, and it was practically dead. I enjoyed the Song Of Albion series immensely, but the Bright Empires has also proved to be very exciting.
One of my Goodreads friends and I have done buddy reads of the first four Bright Empires novels (and plan to read the fifth one together next spring); but although we like them, we both feel that they aren't up to Lawhead's usual high standard of literary craftsmanship. IMO, that's probably related to the physical and mental distractions of his ongoing battle with cancer, at least while he was writing the earlier books of the series. (I haven't heard anything about his current health status --maybe other members of the group have?)
I can agree with Mr. Werner that Bright Empires doesn't carry the same 'weight' that his earlier works like The Pendragon Cycle, and The Song of Albion did. On the subject of his battle with cancer, I last heard that he was either in remission, or recovery.
Nathaniel wrote: "I last heard that he was either in remission, or recovery." Nathaniel, that's wonderful news!
Adam (and others), if you have a copy of 'Scarlet,' read the dedication. If you've ever read it and wondered what it meant, it's referring to the medical team that saved his life.
Yes -- I think that he was mostly recovered by the time that he started Bright Empires. I've only read the first book of Bright Empires and agree with Werner as well. I still found it enjoyable, but I didn't feel that it was an immersive experience like his other books. Maybe that is due to the time travel element.
Now that he's finishing up, has anyone heard what's up next for him?
