The authors of Dead Souls and Dead Souls each have a surname with non-consecutive repeating consonants. Read a book by any author whose surname consists of non-consecutive repeating consonants (i.e. any letter other than A, E, I, O, or U).

If they also have consecutive repeating consonants, is that okay? For example the name Phillips has non-consecutive Ps, but also consecutive Ls.

The Ps will qualify it. They can also have repeating consonants if there is a third with at least one intervening letter, such as the Ns in Cunningham.
I'd like to add here that we intentionally used "surname" rather than "last name". Compound names like McCall Smith and Vargas Llosa qualify, but make sure a letter intervenes as Ruiz Zafon, with only a space, would not.

So...I think I understand. Audrey Niffenberger would qualify for Rs but not for F, correct? Also John Hersey for H, Tracy Chevalier for C, and Elizabeth Strout for T?Or are John Hersey and Tracy Chevalier not qualified since one letter is in the first name?
Niffenberger qualifies for Ns and Rs. Strout for Ts. Hersey and Chevalier do not have a repeating consonant.

LOL - thanks, Karen. She still works for this task for the Ns.

yes, I was glad to share since it still works;) I'm also planning on her for the task or a combo.
Because I am a moron, I want to give folks the heads up that the task is non-consecutive CONSONANTS....I think I got overly excited by the gOgOl example and didn't read carefully...ha.
Deedee wrote: "So if I understand this correctly --- Leo Tolstoy - repeating "T" -- would fit this task"Yes, he does.
Okay, so does Muriel SparkS work? As in, there only has to be one repeating letter but it cant be SS and there is a p and a k in between?
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Yes Sparks would work. (But Muriel's name is Spark, so wouldn't work.)"You are correct! I always want to change it to Sparks, and have no idea why.
I’m reading Old City, New Rumours and wondered if this would count. It’s a poetry anthology edited by Ian Gregson and Carol Rumens. Gregson is also the author of the introduction and several poems included in the book. Gregson is listed first on the cover so I guess he would be considered the primary author, but I wasn’t sure if this counts as he’s the editor and his original writing makes up a relatively small part of the book.
Thank you!
