Bookworm with Kids This is the thread for nominations for our March group read. It will remain open until Sunday 25th March at 7pm GMT (11 am Sunday PST, 6am Monday 26th Sydney Time).
Apologies for the short time for nominations!
The theme for our March read is food and drink - nut of a fictional nature rather than non-fiction!
I look forward to seeing your nominations.

Bookworm with Kids To start off the nominations, I am proposing Five Quarters of the Orange by Joanne Harris. It has been on my TBR shelf for ages so I need an excuse to read it!

Donna McCaul Thibodeau (celtic_donna) | 1150 comments I'll second your nomination, Bookworm.

Clare O'Beara | 159 comments Short month, Feb.
I hardly got through any library books.

I second Declan's suggestion and glad he reminded me of this book which I need to put on my shopping list for Edinburgh.

Peter (peterdonnelly) | 35 comments The book I'd most like to read would be Sugar Money but is the word Sugar in the Title the link to the Food and Drink theme :)

Bookworm with Kids Yes, Peter, you could argue that the link is tenuous for all the books suggested but I would be happy that they link to the theme! Something called Gluttony or other things suggesting food, drink, eating etc would also be accepted - would anyone else have a different opinion?

message 8: by Susan (new)

Susan | 4707 comments I'd like to nominate Pomegranate Soup that has been sitting on my shelf for awhile. It ties in nicely with our geographic challenge too.

On the other nominations, I think they're fine. If the link is too weak for you then just don't vote for them. I like when we have a variety of nominations.

Bookworm with Kids Just a note, Clare's nomination of Who Moved My Goat Cheese won't be published in UK & Ireland until March 6th. I think that this is close enough to the beginning of the month to be acceptable as a nomination. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Declan I'm just trying to figure out if we're dealing with themes or word association. Hunger Games and Feast of Crows just doesn't feel fair to the imagination Bookworm has contributed.

I love the sound of Declan's nomination and in my humble opinion it fits

Kate | 1 comments I'll nominate The Kitchen House

message 14: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments I forgot about this reading HAS to be a theme. I wondered about the odd selections. I seconded Sugar Money because it's a book I want to read. But I am not enamored of theme reading so I will refrain from seconding another book if that is ruled ineligible.

Susan | 4707 comments I hate to sound cranky, Bookworm, but i have a problem with books coming out the month of nomination. They are often difficult to get at the library and more expensive to buy. Still we don't have a rule so I guess we leave it up to the voter.

Bookworm with Kids Susan, you are right about availability and pricing of books only published in the month of the Group read. I was in a hurry starting up the nomination thread and forgot to add the standard rules regarding availability, etc. Because of my omission, I feel that I should allow Clare's nomination for this month but it is something that I will pay closer attention to in future.

Ditto. Declan no probs I was just wanting to understand how it worked being only a month with the group. The main thing is we'll get nominations for books we're all keen to read.

Bookworm with Kids Just a quick reminder to everyone that nominations close in about 6 hours time. So far we only have two books valid for the poll (i.e. nominated and seconded). They are : Five Quarters of the Orange and Sugar Money.

Bookworm with Kids The other books nominated but not yet seconded are:
Who Moved My Goat Cheese?
Pomegranate Soup &
The Kitchen House.
These are ineligible for the poll unless they are seconded.

Maria Hill AKA MH Books (mariahilldublin) | 601 comments I'll second pomegranate soup as I read and enjoyed that back when it first came out and I happen to know it's only a fiver in Chapters :)

But I won't get to it until near the end of March - due to my current work load and reading schedule.

Bookworm with Kids Thanks, Maria. It's good to have a few books in the poll! How is your work schedule going?

message 22: by Maria Hill (new)

Maria Hill AKA MH Books (mariahilldublin) | 601 comments Lol work is crazy. One of the Directors decided to push up one of the deadlines and then our lovely Georgian building has decided it would go mad this weekend. We had floods on Friday, burglar alarms ringing all weekend and something keeps tripping the fire alarm circuit in the basement. Did I ever mention I work in a Haunted building- one day I’ll write about it and the world will think it’s magical realism and not just exaggerated truth.

Bookworm with Kids Maria, they say that truth is stranger than fiction. I would like to read that story when you get around to writing it - I could be your beta reader!
