I hope you are enjoying Frankenstein so far! I would be interested to hear what you think of the unusual structure of the novel, with its stories within stories within stories! At first, I found it limiting, as we only get the narrow perspectives of the person recounting their story. However, as I progress it's added an element of intrigue as I start to wonder how the different stories all fit together. I also like Shelley's use of letters at various points, it lends a very intimate feel. Please do feel free to comment with your opinion, on the structure or any other aspect of Frankenstein!
About halfway through Frankenstein now! I hope that you are enjoying it - the story so far is dark and at times uncomfortable reading, yet I am completely riveted.
What is your opinion of the main character, Victor Frankenstein?
Personally, I believe he is not as selfless as he seems when we initially meet him. He also frequently laments his situation but takes little positive action towards a resolution, with a tendency to wallow in self-pity.

Almost at the end of Frankenstein now! I have noticed that Mary Shelley uses a great deal of foreshadowing in the novel - meaning we as readers almost always suspect major events before they actually occur.
What is your opinion of this technique? Does it add to the atmosphere of despair, helplessness and inevitability? Or do you find that it ruins the suspense for you?
I would love to hear your thoughts!
