I just wrote my first synopsis, and I found it very hard to do! I think I did a good job on it. I was wondering if it would be better to write it after my first draft is written, or after I have my edits done?

Normally, a synopsis would be written after the novel is complete--not just a first draft, but a polished work. But that leaves open the question of what the purpose of the synopsis is. If you're writing it as something to present to agents or publishers, then it should be written based on the final draft. If, on the other hand, you're writing it as a way to focus your own writing, as a part of the development process, it couldn't hurt to write one early. You'll just wind up revising it later after the work changes.

Actually, I guess that also depends on what kind of edit you envision. If it's just sentence-level copyediting, it's unlikely to affect what goes in the synopsis. But if you're still considering substantive edits that would change the narrative or structure, then you may have to do some redundant work in revising the synopsis.

I should probably admit, though, that I don't always do things in a logical order, so my advice may be of minimal value.

All advice, is appreciated, and priceless. I think from here on, that I will start my synopsis after my final draft. If its logically to you than go with it. We all have a method that works for us.

I've heard of synopsis being written at different points within the creative process. Just like your book you start with a rough draft that may be revised as you complete your creative process. I know is not declarative information, but you should follow whatever works best for you.
