I decided to read A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle. I remember reading it as a child and loving it, so I'm interested to see what I think of it as an adult - some books hold up and some don't. Hopefully, this one holds up! I hadn't realized it was published before I was born, though, so that was a bit of surprise. Actually once I started paying attention to publication dates, alot of the science fiction and fantasy novels that I have read or am interested in were published before I was born. A Wrinkle in Time also hit my radar because of the new movie, which I'd like to see. Movies based on books can sometimes go well and other times...well, they could be better. So after I finish reading it, I'll be off to watch the movie.
The Maltese Falcon..."Here's looking at you, kid!!" Interesting story and undoubtedly an all time Hammett/Bogarde classic.
For this challenge I read Carrie by Stephen King which was published in 1974. It isn't his best work but I found it really interesting to see where Kings career in writing began
Hi Caitlin - how are you doing? Our Laura is still in Australia - currently working on a Farm (getting hands on with some potatoes :) ) in Tasmania...loving the experience.

I'd have to say my favourite of his is probably The Stand. I like his middle works mostly - some of the newer ones are not as good, in my opinion.
I finished A Wrinkle in Time and I thought it held up pretty well for a beloved children's book that I was rereading. The plot was a little simplistic but it was still the classic good versus evil, heroic journey, coming of age story that resonates so well. I think the reason this book held up so well is because Madeline L'Engle drew on some very basic themes when she created the story...but then she added in some unique and unusual elements of her own. However, one of the things that I didn't care for as an adult (but that I hadn't noticed much as a child) was how much L'Engle references God and Jesus. I don't think she needed to do that. The points she's trying to get across could have been made without hitting the reader across the head with such an explicit Christian message.
Overall, though, I enjoyed it and I'm definitely looking forward to going to see the new movie now that I've refreshed my memory of the book!

I haven't read The Stand yet but its definitely on my King TBR. The size is a bit intimidating though

Glad to hear she's having fun. How is she finding Tasmania? It's a lot more rural then the other states

LOL. There's a few King books like that...

Glad to h..."
Loving it Caitlin (long day and hard work on the Farm, but good fun)...she thinks Australia is fantastic...and looking at her photos, I would definitely agree.
Anyway, she has a few days off for Easter so some of them are hiring a car and going to visit Hobart for a few days.
Do you know much about Adelaide? - as she is thinking of heading there after Tasmania.
