Wow, the man was fascinating! As classics go, the language of this was much easier to read than most, Franklin being plain spoken and straightforward, not given to embellishment. He was intelligent, sensible, creative, disciplined, and a man of integrity. I've heard that in later years, as an ambassador to France, he was quite the rake, which is rather far from how he portrays himself here, but then again this only details his early life. I wish he had written about the events of the revolution, it would have been fascinating to get his take on it.

I remember having a paperback of this on my shelf in the Philippines as a child, but never was inclined to pick it up. Now I'm glad the PBT decathlon as finally pushed me to read it. I'm surprised it is not required reading for schools, it certainly would be a much easier read for kids than Dickens!

And as a bonus, this book covers all three tags for the March Decathlon requirement - autobiography, classic, and illustrated. Actually, I read the free Project Gutenberg version first, then only later looked through Amazon for an illustrated ecopy, which I found (and bought) for 99 cents. Wish I'd done that earlier, reading it with the illustrations as they were peppered throughout the book would have been more of a pleasure. I did go through the book to look at all the illustrations, several of which were colored in the Kindle edition.

This is my favorite autobiography. Franklin was smart and a really cool dude just to hang out with. I recommend Walter Isaacson biography of Franklin for a complete and less biased view. haha.

My "baby" brother speaks very highly of this book. It's on my tbr, but who know when I'll get to it.

I remember liking this when I read it, but since I was pregnant with my eldest child at that time, can't say that I remember much (partly that pregnancy memory, partly time).
