You can bump your thread every month or so. This puts your book back at the top of the folder instead of on page 24. More people and newer eyes will see it and perhaps know your book. Good luck!

I couldn't find Overdrive by Leslie Waller on goodreads, but here is a picture of the Scholastic edition with the back cover copy: https://www.avidvintage.com/products/... And here is the Kirkus review: https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-re... I'm thinking "Porter Hagen III" could be the rich kid.
Overdrive by Leslie Waller - I created the goodreads record for Adele's suggestion. It has at least two other different covers, too.

Hey he actually said Overdrive was a no go. He gave me additional information and said that it was actually 4 kids from the "good side of town," and 4 from "poor side of town," and they got a garage together.
Into the Groove: A Story about Sports Car Racing is set in California and is about one poorer boy and several other characters, some of them rich, working on and racing cars, but the rest doesn't fit (no red car with half just primer). Still, it kept coming up in my searches, so I thought I'd mention it. It is available to read online at openlibrary.org.
Adele! This is first one he seems to think might be it! I'm going to have him double check on openlibrary.org but it seems really promising! He said he could've been wrong about paint/primer but when he read what you wrote it seemed like maybe we have a winner!I'll update when he checks!
Yes, please do let us know. We love closure. And we mark the thread as solved and shelve the book when we get confirmation.
Haley, what are some of the themes - car racing, racial tensions, dysfunctional families, romance, etc.?
About how old are boys? Are they in school or employed?
What's the tone - adventure, funny, angsty, coming-of-age, somber, etc.?

A guess - The Red Car (1954) by Don Stanford? "Hap restores a car to race." http://www.worldcat.org/title/red-car...
There are multiple cover images, such as:

Worldcat.org is a great resource for old children's books. For example:

He said it took place in a California town where a boy from the poor side of town has a garage where he works in cars. He has a red car that he wants to fix up that has one side that is not painted (only primer). There is another boy from the rich side of town that is also into cars.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
