It’s great that Verstraete is going to continue her Lizzie Borden series. The main character faces a couple of mysteries, one concrete and one a bit supernatural. Dr. Seabury Bowen, the haunted man of this book, was a real person, and he was one of the first people in the house after the bodies of Lizzie Borden’s father and stepmother were discovered, hacked to death. Not 40 and 41 times, but a lot—29 total.
Aren’t we all fascinated with that case? There are songs about it, and lots of speculation and different theories. The fact is that she was eventually acquitted of the crime, but no one has ever been sure what happened.
It’s wonderful that the author can fill in so many blanks, and continues the story with Dr. Bowen, strangely drawn to the nearby woods, happening upon what appears to be a crime. He makes a poor decision right then that has drastic consequences. The twists associated with his woodland discovery would be enough to keep us reading, but there’s a bizarre development at the end, too.
This book is packed with odd people, action, and mysteries.

Awesome review. Well worded. I also read this but I haven’t posted a review yet. Haven’t been satisfied with mine. You captured it so well. I’d like to say Ditto
