Read at least three positive and negative reviews for a book you did NOT like and write your response to these reviews in our discussion here.

The Husband's Secret is not actually my LEAST favorite book, but it's one I recently gave up on. I do not think that the people who like it are idiots, but they are people who love above all else a plot line that hooks the reader from the outset, which this book does. A captivating plot was not enough to keep me reading, and I agreed more with the negative reviewers, who point out that the characters are flat. This book felt manipulative to me because it hooks the reader without providing much else of real substance. The writer didn't have enough insight into life to make me want to listen to her.

Grace A lot of people say they like the book thief. I don't know why, but for some reason I really didn't like it. In the beginning it was weird and strange. As the story went on I had to force myself to read it until I eventually gave up. I have nonidea why people are saying they love it because I don't know what they liked exactly...everyone says it is amazing but I really can't see it. Sorry to those who love this book. Not everyone was positive. I agree with those people who were a tad confused or bored, because I was too.

Natalie Miodowski One of my least favorite books was Tom Sawyer from 6th grade. The only parts of the book I liked was the fact that Tom was pretty young, so it made it a little more understandable. Another thing that was okay about it was that the writing was very detailed and good. The last thing that made it slightly more bearable was the fact that he got into trouble which added some humor. But overall, I did not like this book. It was very long and drawn out, and not interesting at all. It was too hard for little 6th grade me to understand and comprehend. Lastly, the fact that it was forced upon me made me dislike it that much more. Overall, not a fan.

I haven't read this book, but I heard it was good! Based on grace's review, I'll give it a try and see if my experience is similar.

I thought Tom Swayer was a pretty boring book, but I enjoyed it for the most part. If you like the older timed books this is a good book to read.

I had actually read an excerpt from tom sawyer and it was funny how he always tricked the kids into doing things for him but there was never a good moral behind it.

message 8: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Perkins Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt is, in my opinion, a terrible book. Many people liked it, which surprised me. The majority of the book is comprised of a group of children walking and feeling sorry for themselves. Many of the "details" of the trip are the author describing how much the food that they purchased costed and how they might acquire more food and money to continue their endless march.

message 9: by Sam (new)

Sam Park I honestly did not like Malala. It was really hard for me to keep reading the book. Don't get me wrong; Malala herself is an amazing person, but I think most of the positive review were of the same reason, rather than rating/commenting the actual book.

message 10: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa O'Connell One of my least favorite books was The River by Gary Paulsen. It was interesting because I usually like his books but I definitely did not like this one. Seeing that it was a summer reading book, my judgement could have been impaired. But overall, I was not a fan of the whole situation of the book. The underlying theme is good but still not one of my favorites. His style of writing is decent but not anything to write home about. When we went over it in class, it definitely seemed like it appealed to the guys more than the girls.

Erica Schickerling My least favorite book would be The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The beginning of the book for me couldn't hold my attention and it was just slow. When it got more interesting it was very violent and gruesome and it wasn't really my type of book.

message 12: by Brian (new)

Brian Wolfe I agree with Sam on how I am malala was just not that great of a book. Most of the book was boring and wasn't even about malala at all. Also a lot of the writing seemed artificial, I don't really know how to explain but her writing style messed with me. I know this is bad of me but the book only got interesting once she got shot.

message 13: by Elisa (new)

Elisa My least favorite book is Crispin by Avi. The beginning was okay with the main character being a nobody, and finally being framed for something he didn't do, but it seemed a little predictable. Also the plot was not the best and the characters where not well developed.

message 14: by Amber (new)

Amber Alerta My least favorite book, or to be exact, the one and only book I've given up on, is Eleanor and Park. There was so much hype that I didn't understand. People gushing, "It completely embodies what it feels like to be a teenager," and, "This could possibly be the greatest YA book ever written" just is mind-boggling to me. I AM a teenager, and I couldn't connect to this book at all. However, after reading some negative reviews for the book, I felt they really hit the nail. I totally agreed with them when they say that Rainbow Rowell, the author, tried to fit a 10-pound plot in a 5-pound bag. On top of the outsiders-find-love plot, both characters are dealing with deep family problems that we felt wad forced in there just to evoke more emotion from the audience. All in all, I just couldn't understand the claims being made by other reviewers saying this is the greatest book they have ever read.

message 15: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy Boyle A book that I feel bad about disliking is 3 Cups of Tea. Many people will say that it was a good book and that the idea was great, but I could not finish this book. I had to force myself to get through the middle third of the book, hoping the whole time it would get better, but it never did. I finally quit about 3/4 of the way through because I was just forcing myself to finish it. Many of the reviews were just like mine. They were all about how it was great that he did it but it was so slow-paced that it was a pain to finish.

message 16: by Anthony (new)

Anthony I read three comments on the book Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt. Mixed positive and negatives, but I mostly agreed with the negatives. A boring story about children walking around the city abandoned by there mother.

message 17: by Katie (new)

Katie Kenny I read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer last year. I personally did not like it, and a lot of reviews didn't either. People were saying it was very boring, which I agree with. It got a lot of good reviews also. Many people related to Tom Sawyer, and love Mark Twain.

message 18: by Mandi (new)

Mandi Hall (ahall8325) One of my least favorite books is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It is just so depressing, and there are things the characters do that are inconsistent to their personalities. That's why I didn't like it. Either something depressing was happening, or nothing was happening. It had a somewhat decent ending though. People talked in their reviews that it was beautifully written, and that is true. But many people said it was hopeful, and it really wasn't.

message 19: by Glenn (new)

Glenn My least favorite book the schwa was here was terrible in my opinion. Acorrding to the comments a lot of people loved it which i disagree with. On the other hand some people thought it was ok which this is all opinion but i thought this boom was dumb.

message 20: by Julia (new)

Julia Maniac Magee is not necessarily my least favorite book but it is definitely one the books that I have read and not enjoyed. We had to read it for summer reading going into 6th and I did not enjoy it for one reason because we were forced to read it. I agree with what many people said about how the plot was repetitive and the main character was kind of boring. I also agree with more positive reviews saying that it has a good message and helped teach you about racial prejudice but I just didn't like it. I found it boring and the plot would repeat itself and all he would do is run. Not my favorite book.

message 21: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin Sattley One of my least favorite books was The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. People seem to love this book by reading the reviews, saying it's an American Classic novel. I tend to agree it is a classic, and was ahead of its time during the period written, but the book was not one of my favorites. I found it boring and that it dragged on. I was confused by some of the language used, and overall I don't agree with most of the reviews.

message 22: by Nimmy (new)

Nimmy Tomy I like the concept of The Hobbit but I really didn't like the book because of the long details. While looking through the reviews of other people, I saw how they wrote "it's such a great book", " we can connect to it" and things. I just found this book to be one of my least favorites because of the extra long details.

That book wasn't my favorite either. Most of the vocabulary was hard to understand because it was written so differently especially at the 6th grade level.
