Diane | 13052 comments Post your nominations here for the June group reads. A significant portion of the book must be set in the featured location. We will be reading books set in Albania and the province of Mantoba in Canada. We will also be featuring contemporary literature translated to English. Here are lists to get you started:

Albania*:
Albania Group Book List: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Albania Bookshelf: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

Manitoba
Canada Book List: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... (Scroll down to "Books set in Manitoba" heading-Post 6)
Bookshelf for Manitoba: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

Contemporary Translated Lit:
Nominate translated books published and set after WWII. Note: Book must be originally written in a language other than English. Many foreign authors write books in English - these would not qualify.

Books do not need to be present on these lists to be nominated. Authors, please do not nominate your own books.

For a list of books we have read in previous months, click here: Previously Read Group Read Books

*For our featured world country selection (this month it is Albania): If the book selected by popular vote is not written by a native or resident author, the book written by a native author with the highest votes will also be selected, resulting in two book selections for that country.

Mome_Rath | 1882 comments Poor Manitoba! I don't know that I can fit Canadian literature into my packed list of books to read these next couple of months, but I'll throw out some books that looked interesting from the list:

The Flying Troutmans by Miriam Toews
Grain by Robert J.C. Stead
Street of Riches by Gabrielle Roy
Lost in the Barrens by Farley Mowat

Maybe someone else has other suggestions?

I reviewed the Manitoba lists in detail, but struggled to get behind a nomination. I liked several but they exceeded 500 pages, and I chickened out. So glad you took charge of this one, Mome-Rath!

Rosemarie | 3997 comments I have read, Grain, Street of Riches and Lost in the Barrens and enjoyed all of them. But then, I live in Canada.
I am nominating A Bird in the House by Margaret Laurence.

Glad to hear someone's read and enjoyed some of the books I suggested! I haven't read any of them, though I have read and liked other books by Roy and Mowat. Laurence's short stories also look fascinating.
