Eventually Carol found out about Jeff and Meghan and insisted they break up. The two girls went out to talk it over and Meghan met Ben who was recovering from a bad breakup. His parents and Meghan's parents were in the same vicinity so he offered to give her a ride home for Christmas.
Just before Christmas Meghan found out Jeff and Carol had slept together. Her world fell apart.
Meghan's parents and pastor arranged for Meghan to move into the home of an elderly couple from church. The Harbach's home was a chance to start over.
The last chapters of "The Whisper Theory" catalog a whirlwind romance between Ben and Meghan. After their wedding they planned to move to Milwaukee. Ben would start seminary and Meghan would to work full-time at the paper and part-time as a church secretary.
