This fictional book called Orbiting Jupiter written by Garry D. Schmidt about a troubled fourteen year old boy named Joseph who becomes a father will keep someone on the edge of your seat. Jack meets his new foster brother Joseph who is a troubled father and has never met his daughter Jupiter. While Jack has the goal to make Joseph laugh, Joseph has bigger goals, which is finding his daughter. All Joseph wants is to have his daughter and see her but he is continuously denied. The reader will start to feel his anger through the book when he gets denied. Jack and Joseph take a person on a ride of heart break. Two themes that have a huge role in the book are friendship and perseverance through all things. Friendship arises when Joseph and Jack grow very close and have each others backs through everything and do daily chores together where they get to know each other. Perseverance through all because Joseph was not going to give up on finding his daughter that everyone said he could raise. He did not listen to them and did whatever he could to find his daughter. Conflict is the biggest literary quality in this book. Joseph is struggling to find Jupiter and when he gets close to finding her someone stops it from happening. Humor is another literary quality because jack tries to get Joseph to smile and laugh by making jokes. This book really draws someone in because of the bond and turn of events that happen each page. The way the author portrays the heart break and sympathy this book deserves a four rating.
