I agree with you.I loved this book, and I thought it was handled well, but it helped that I knew something about it in advance. I don't know if it was a personal recommendation from someone or if I read it in a review.
There is a section just above the reviews for questions. Some people ask about violence or triggers there, or whether it is appropriate for younger readers. I just posted a question there and I included the word Holocaust, so if someone looks at the questions they get a little warning, but not a spoiler.
Most people don't read the comments until after they read the book, but they might look at the questions above the reviews first. If you post a question or something there, let me know and I'll reply or "like" it to maybe get it bumped up a bit.

reading about the atrocities of the holocaust is not something you should be surprised with while reading a book that seems about something else...
