Summary
The Scorch Trials is the second book of the Maze Runner series, it is about a group of boys who escaped a place called the maze and have been placed in the scorch to be tested, they go ahead and go into the scorch because they need a cure for the flare. The author James Dashner wrote about their journey in an unknown place.
Setting
The time frame of this book is in modern time. There are many ways to describe this place because the characters are constantly moving around. They story starts in a room when the main character thomas wake up they are in a place that looks like a looks like a lounge. Later on they meet a man who is supposed to send them in to the Scorch, he leads them into a wall that teleports them into a dark place. They do not know how long they had been walking or where they were because it was complete darkness. When they find an exit they notice that it is a really hot place and they needed to wait until it got dark so they can step outside. They think that they are outside on earth, they describe it as earth but without water and grass. It is just a brown earth with no trees and empty buildings. The author’s tone in the story is adventurous, the setting shows this because the place that they are in sounds dangerous and difficult to get through. The setting helps the reader picture where the characters are and what they are doing, if there was no setting we would think that there is nothing there and they are in a black space.
Opinion
In my opinion this book was fun to read and it was very interesting. i t was cool to read about all the dangers these teenage boys had to avoid to to get past the scorch. And it was amazing to meet new characters in the story that were not mentioned in the first book. I would give this book five stars.
