What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Sorry for the vague plot. The series only consisted of 2 books. The cover art is what I remember most. The first book's cover (paperback) shows a series of glowing stone obelisks that ran across the front, around the spine and along the back. They are set in a rocky looking area and the scene is dimly lit. There was at least one character on the front facing the line of towers.

My recollection of the story is that a magical barrier, consisting of many stone towers, runs between two areas keep evil things at bay but it's failing. I think, at one point, the main character actually hides in a broken one. I recall that there's a prince character that becomes involved in trying to fix the problem and an adviser is working against him.

I read this in the mid to late 1980s. I can see the cover in my mind, but not the title or author. Although I do remember that the author's last name was not a common one - I use to think it was Zelazny, but I realize I'm thinking of the Amber series.

Maybe The Measure of the Magic by Terry Brooks? Though that may be too recent.

I think one of the books was called Someone's Ride - but I can't remember the name. It may have been part of a larger series. Like these two books were written as a series, but there are others in the same universe.

There's one that's kinda close but the time frame is waaaay off, Green Rider by Kristen Britain is the beginning of the series but the elements that match what you're looking for take place in the later books. The one that's closest is (I think) Blackveil but it's been a while since I read them and the stories have run together a bit. But a quite a few of the elements are there, which is weird.
