Jordan Cavaliero | 7 comments Being a teenager is hard. Being young, beautiful, and smart, has its perks. Having a long, painful childhood is traumatizing. And having the perfect life can be anything but perfect. These three teenagers tell us their story of why and how they wanted to end their not so perfect lives.

For Vanessa, Tony, and Conner, they have had enough with their terrible lives and tried to end it all. They have nothing in common except for the fact that they all end up at Aspen Springs, the psychiatric hospital for the ones who have attempted suicide. They all end up here because they have attempted suicide and survived.

Vanessa is a smart and beautiful teenage girl but her schizophrenic mother and abandoning father has made her hide her secrets and slip into the damage of the blade. Throughout the book we learn more about Vanessa and why she feels more joy when causing harm to herself.

Tony is strong, handsome, and gay with a very painful past. His mother was nothing like a mother to him and his father never returned home which impacted Tony’s life very much for the worse. Tony turned to popping pills on the daily. Tony has some deep dark secrets that he has to hide in order for people not to look at him differently and be scared of him.

Conner is everything a mother and father could dream of-- brilliant, athletic, popular, and handsome. Any parents would be lucky to call a kid like Conner their son, except for his own parents. Conner has been compared to his twin sister his whole life. He has never been as smart or athletic or as good looking as his sister in his parent’s eyes. So he decided to end it all and take a gun to his heart and shoot himself.

Throughout the book, we learn a lot about the characters and find out some very shocking secrets. This book was a little hard to read only due to the fact that you had to remember who was narrating when you were reading. This book was a little graphic and disturbing but it was a good read and I would recommend it.
