One thing that amuses me that I see a lot in Preston and Child is the development of unlikely relationships between the "smart and sexy scientist" and the "troubled male character of note". I know that stories are usually spiced up with a little romance, but it kind of makes me snicker when things are just going along with a whole bunch of scenes with dudes interacting and then they need a person who specializes in something odd and they bring in someone hot and exotic who just so happens to fall for one of the main male characters.

And, I know this isn't just a Preston and Child thing - but it still amuses me!
