Why does Katherine want to go to the editorial meetings? Why is her desire to do so significant?

Katherine Goble wanted to learn as much as possible. She loved working at Langely, and the editorial meetings were where the research reports were scrutinized by engineers to see if the findings where worthy of further research and/or implementation and testing. She wanted to be part of that process, I think, to learn more.

It seems most significant to me in that she didn't allow convention to limit her aspirations or to make her fearful of asking for what she wanted.
